The Mental Health Issues I Blog About

Somewhere along the line, my life went all fuzzy. At 33 I was blessed with a happy and loving marriage and two wonderful sons. I enjoyed a fulfilling career, supportive network of family and friends and yet, I could not cope. I was completely depleted, lacking the reserves I needed to weather another storm. That's when I was diagnosed with anxiety and depression. Since then I've shared my journey to recovery and to living a healthy life publicly, on my blog and in other places. As mothers, we spend so much time giving of ourselves, to our children, our partners, our employer, friends and family that a deficit accumulates that we forget to regularly pay ourselves in rest, relaxation, and tranquility. While I focused all of my energies on being a good, I forgot to spend any energy on me. Now I share ideas and thoughts on how to do that, how to live a spiritual life, and to find happiness from within.

My Mental Wellness Tip for Moms

Sometimes when you are trying to do it all, you are really do nothing at all. It's a hard lesson to learn, but if you start to believe it, you can forgive yourself the struggles and learn to embrace the journey. Focus on what's right in front of you, it's all that matters in the end.

Mental Wellness Resources for Moms

There are many great resources out there, people who have been where you are, and who still struggle everyday. Some can be found in the blogging world, and some in the offline world. The hardest part is reaching out, you just have to be willing to do it. One of the best books I've read is: Buddhism for Mothers by Sarah Napthali. I highly recommend it, it offers a lot of spiritual guidance that translates to real life with kids. Another amazing book is Hand Wash Cold: Care Instructions for an Ordinary Life by Karen Maezen Miller.
