What's the single best decision about money you've made?

The single best money decision that I have made is to pay myself first. Sure, taxes and tithe come out each month before any money hits my hands, but I pay myself first from what is left. Meaning that, from every paycheck, money goes straight into my savings. I then use what is left for my budget each month. That allows me to have an emergency cash fund on hand for those unexpected expenses. If you plan on saving what is left each month, you will never have any savings. There will just never be any money left.

Does your child receive an allowance? If so, how much?

I have a 4 year old boy and a 5 year old girl. Right now, they do not receive an allowance. However, they do earn money for helping around the house and completing chores, etc. I don't consider it an allowance, because it is not a set amount each week. I do think it is important to start teaching your children about money at a very young age.

What's an easy way moms can trim their family food budget?

The easiest way to trim the family budget is to use coupons. You have probably seen TV shows or heard news reports about extreme couponing, but don't let this scare you away. I believe in realistic couponing and having a reasonable size stock-pile of non-expiring goods. I am not over-board or extreme, but I am wise with my money. It is better for me to purchase six body washes when they are free or cheap than to spend $4 each on them as I need them. I have tips on my site as to how to start couponing and the differences between the stores.
