The Political Issue That's Most Important To Me
That's a hard question, because there are so many. But passage of the Paycheck Fairness Act -- which would guarantee that women be paid equally with men -- is right up there. Passage of the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act was a good start, but that only gives us a longer window within which to sue for back pay; it doesn't ensure us fair pay from the start. With women as half the work force and increasingly the main breadwinners in this poor economy, what better way to help families than to make sure men and women are paid equally for the same work?
If I Was In Charge At The White House For One Day, I Would...
You mean aside from getting rid of the stuffy decor? Seriously, if I was in charge of the White House for one day, I would sign the Paycheck Fairness Act into law to make sure men and women get paid the same for the same work, which would certainly help our economy. And since that would only take one minute, I would then launch a serious campaign to wipe out poverty in America to make sure that the close to 15 million children who go to bed hungry every night would never go hungry again.
