The Best Part of Living in SoCal

The best part of living in SoCal? Hmmm... I would have to say the culture. I'm Latin, but growing up here has allowed me to be exposed to a myriad of different cultures and people. I learned to be open to new things and just have an open mind to accept everyone as they are. Something I hope my daughter also takes from growing up here.

My Favorite Local Kid-Friendly Activity

I like to take advantage of the fact that we live in Southern California and our beaches are perfect 75% of the time — so I often take my daughter even if it's just to play in the sand. Aside from that, we love Pickwick Gardens in Burbank — bowling and ice skating at a reasonable rate. But our faves that we get passes for annually — Universal Studios and LA Zoo. It's nice to just take a short drive and take her somewhere to have fun for the day. Of course, there's Disneyland — but we like to save that for special occasions.

The Biggest Challenge of Raising a Kid Where I Live

The biggest challenge I think is a challenge that faces all parents nowadays no matter where you live and that's making sure they don't grow up too fast. With smart phones, tablets and laptops being handed to kids as young as 3-4 years old, especially in such a big city like Los Angeles, giving them an actual childhood gets a little harder to do when you are surrounded by shiny new toys. But as long as you have a good balance, and know when to say it's enough and take them to a park or just have a tickle fight at home — a little technology now and then doesn't hurt.
