What's a simple eco-friendly habit all families can start?

Choosing to eliminate as many toxins is a great first start and can be done easily by reading blogs like the ones found on the Circle of Moms Top 25 Eco-Friendly Moms and by using handy guides from organizations like the Environmental Working Group. This step will have positive impact on both the environment and families health & quality of living. Start simple by choosing to purchase organic or local produce when possible, reduce processed foods, artificial & excess sweeteners, and by choosing natural cleansing agents for the home and body (many of which are even easy, fun and affordable to DIY!).

What would you say to moms who want to be more eco-friendly, but worry it will be more expensive?

It's all about balance and quantity. When I first started making green changes it did seem a little more expensive, but the more changes I made more I found that I was saving money. While organic foods and body products may cost more, I quickly found that I saved a lot by making my own cleaners, eliminating soda & other junk foods, choosing to cloth diaper (this has saved us so much time and money over the span of two children!), buying reusable versions of disposable products and choosing to buy used items has helped too. I also save money on small things like gifts by keeping a supply of used gift bags and tissue paper that I save from holidays and birthdays. Recycling can even play a role. Our family of five has been able to eliminate the need for trash service for over two years now by recycling and composting. We still have some items that don't fall into those categories, but they collect slowly and we can drop them off once a year. In the end, it all adds up and I think that most families will find that when combined, the choice to live more eco-friendly not costly at all and the health benefits for families far outweigh the initial cost in changing products over.

What's one of your favorite eco-friendly brands you've discovered?

Oh gosh, I don't even know where to start here. I love so many and they are from such a variety of product types that it would be impossible to do justice to this question. My best answer is to browse my blog and the others from the Circle of Moms Top 25 Eco-Friendly Moms, try looking for review categories to narrow the search, and you'll be introduced to many, many amazing brands that are working to bring families safe, earth-friendly products and some that have been doing it for decades!
