It Starts With Me

What's a simple eco-friendly habit all families can start?
There are so many simple eco-friendly habits that any family could easily do. Since we are active in helping clean up our community, my personal favorite (and simple) thing that we do is strive to reduce the amount of single-use plastics we use. 3 easy changes are: Reusable bags, reusable water bottles, and saying "no thank you" to plastic straws. Once I get comfortable refusing something, I like to pick a "new" single-use plastic product to refuse and come up with a plastic-free alternative!
What would you say to moms who want to be more eco-friendly, but worry it will be more expensive?
One of the main components of being "eco-friendly" is reducing the amount of things we consume/purchase and reducing the amount of waste we create. To do this, we don't have to go out and buy the fancy "green" products. Instead, by getting creative by rethinking, reusing, and repurposing we save a lot of resources. One of the resources saved just happens to be money. Some inexpensive eco-friendly tips: * Reuse a glass jar/juice bottle for a reusable water bottle. * Make reusable bags from t-shirts * Buy local and in-season foods * Shop bulk foods * Make your own snacks like granola bars, hummus, crackers, etc * Shop thrift/consignment shops (buying used is much cheaper than new!) * Compost (create less trash, no need for trash bags and free fertilizer) * In lieu of paper towels, cut up old towels into squares for cleaning rags
What's one of your favorite eco-friendly brands you've discovered?
I have a lot of eco-friendly brands that I really love. Thinking about what I use most often, my Klean Kanteens reusable water bottles would have to be my absolute favorites! I (literally) never leave my house without one!
