Where We Are On The Political Spectrum
We're a group blog, made up of left of center and centrist Democrats.
The Political Issue That's Most Important To Us
As we're a group blog, we all have our own priorities. I liked what member Julie Pippert had to say about this, which sums up the economic priorities many of us are feeling right now: "Tax code simplification for both business and individuals. That's not very sexy, though, I think, especially when I start pontificating about the need to improve the framework for social reform outside of the tax code. Otherwise it's health care, jobs, education -- although all of those would benefit, I think, from tax simplification. Largely because it would help with revenue. (note I will not use phrase 'tax reform.'). I think the other issues we care about involve social justice, women's equality, safe food and farming, and the environment. (Whew. That's a lot, especially when you remember that a lot of these issues seemed settled and solvable a decade ago and now, we have to fight all over again.)
If We Were In Charge At the White House For One Day, We Would...
Again, I'm going to go with Julie Pippert's reply to this: "If I were Pres for a day: I would simplify the tax code, down to about one page. I'd revoke the debt ceiling compromise. I'd do a press conference highlighting actual work members of Congress did to force media stories. I'd nail down three short & sweet SMART Objectives to unify Democrats for 2012 (how easy was it for everyone to get behind 'a house, a car in every garage and a chicken in every pot?'). I'd assign Sarah Palin to an outpost for Diplomats (oldest and best way to get rid of someone). I'd ask Stevie Wonder back for another performance. I'd fund scientists to create balls and a spine for Boehner. I'd invite a great cartoonist in to do a caricature of me saying 'Read My Lips: No More Capitulation.' Probably that's a full day."
