How did your decorating style change when you became a mom?

Actually my decorating style didn't change when I became a mom...as I have always inspired to provide a cozy, relaxed atmosphere in our home. What's most important to me is creating a home where my family enjoys being together.

What's your advice on creating a beautiful family space that works for both kids and adults?

For our family, we have found the "vintage country farmhouse style" to work for us. Recycling furniture and using reclaimed wood to build tables or headboards have helped make our home comfortable and interesting. Our sofas are slip covered, which makes for easy washing. One of our favorite additions is a large reclaimed barn wood island for making meals together. Using inexpensive flea market finds is a great way to add character to a newer home. We want our home to feel "lived-in", not stiff...so our chippy, vintage furniture becomes better with more wear and tear.

How would you decorate a child's room on a budget?

Decorating a child's room on a budget is achievable by visiting flea markets and using a little creativity. Decide on a theme...and go from there. Remember a can of paint can do wonders for a room! Some examples that we have incorporated into our kid's rooms are: using a small picket fence for a headboard and painting a whole wall with chalkboard paint for drawings.
