The Most Rewarding Part About Being a Single Parent Being told that I have a great kid and that it is obvious that it has much to do with my parenting is extremely rewarding! Having someone externally validate the good job you're doing goes a long way sometimes because when you are alone you have no external frame of reference. Also, knowing that the bond my son and I are building will be a very strong one because of all the time and hard work I put into being the best mother I can brings me comfort whenever things get overwhelming. Do you know the saying, "It takes a village to raise a child"? Utilize your village! No matter how amazing you are you cannot do this work all alone, so be sure to have family members and friends that you trust to help you when needed and to help your children be as well-rounded as possible. |

The Most Rewarding Part About Being a Single Parent As trying and difficult as it is to raise a child by yourself, at the end of the day, as I chug my bottle of wine, I'm filled with pride knowing I'm strong enough to do it alone. The Most Rewarding Part About Being a Single Parent For me, getting married was optional. Having children was not, and my journey to motherhood without a partner was not an easy one. What is most rewarding is watching these two beautiful little people learn and blossom and grow, and I am humbled to be their mother. A Piece of Advice for Other Single Parents As trite as it may sound, it truly takes a village. If you don't have one, build your own. Network. Meet other moms, neighbors, teachers, coaches. Join the PTA. Go to church. Find good people to become part of your extended family--people who will support you and act as good role models for your children. My Favorite Posts I love my posts all the same. Blogging for me is a way to record our life, but it's also a creative outlet where I can be funny and outlandish and snub my nose in the face of convention. With that said, I'll list three different posts that I liked and that were a hit. |
