1Confessions of a Pagan Soccer Mom by Mrs. B. |
|
What Inspired Me to Start Blogging I started Confessions of a Pagan Soccer Mom on May 8, 2008, around the time that I "came out" in my community as a Pagan. After hiding my religious choices for years, for fear of possible discrimination and persecution, I was ready stop hiding who and what I really was. I started the blog to share my story and to show the world that there are those out there just living life and raising a beautiful family — and just happen to be Pagan as well. For the most part, it's been a pretty easy road, both in my community and online. There have, of course, been the occasional bumps in the road as well. How Faith Inspires How I Raise My Children My faith is one of acceptance, tolerance. One that sees the God and Goddesses influence in every animal, every plant, every person. I've raised my kids to accept people for who they are, to try to show kindness to those that they meet, and to be nature's conservators, in honor of deity. I've also, sadly, had to raise them to be aware that there are those out there who would wish them harm based solely on our religious choices. I've taken that knowledge and made it into a lesson about standing up for others who have or are being bullied. I'm proud to say that my kids, while certainly not perfect, are becoming people who can stand up for themselves and for others, and who extend courtesy and kindness to all they meet. What Inspired Me to Start Blogging After graduating from the Moody Bible Institute with a Bachelor of Arts Degree – I got married and led women’s Bible studies, Workshops, Retreats and mentorships in my church. Then I had children and found balancing my ministry outside the home and my children in the home to be difficult. So I began http://www.womenlivingwell.org to bring my ministry home. How Faith Inspires How I Raise My Children My husband and I’s faith is the foundation of our individual lives, our marriage and our home. We read God’s word daily together, pray together, attend church together and serve together. I am reminded that God was the perfect father and he placed Adam and Eve in the perfect environment (the garden of Eden) and yet Adam and Eve rebelled. We are not in control of how our children respond to God’s word but we are responsible to obey God’s word and teach it to our children. Lisa Whelchel says “If I were the perfect parent, my children would have no need for God.” I want my children to know that though I am not always with them – Jesus is – and he loves them – and they need his saving grace. What Inspired Me to Start Blogging After working in ministry with women all over the world, I realized that many women struggled with the distance between their ideals and desire for a romantic life and the realities of daily life and disappointments. I wanted to write a blog that would give grace, love, affirmation and encouragement, and joy to the lives of women. I also wanted to help women understand that their home and life as a mom can help define the souls of the next generation and to inspire them and to inspire them in this task. I have also written 6 books on parenting and motherhood and wanted a place where I could answer mail and comments I receive that I am not able to answer personally. How Faith Inspires How I Raise My Children My understanding of God's design, that it was a birthplace of moral excellence, spiritual vitality and a strong character, gave purpose and meaning to my own life, as a mom of four children. I began to understand that God created the home to be the strategic place, in raising strong, moral, emotionally healthy children, but that a mother had to be intentional in her relationship to her children to build these significant attributes within her home. As I grew in understanding this Biblical foundation, I wanted to help other moms know how to make a plan for their own family, home and children as a place to build the future generation, their own children, into healthy adults.
