With Ava, I had debated the whole time in getting an epidural, and decided right there at the hospital to get one. And, it didn't happen, I didn't expect to happen what did happen with Ava's birth.

It was exactly how I had anticipated it. I had a feeling the whole time that I was farther along than what they kept telling me so his due date should have been at the end of November instead of the end of December. I had a suspicion it would turn into a C-Section the whole time.

  • Carrie says:
    it was alright

  • Dionne says:
To be honest, I hadn't anticipated anything. I figured it would be better to just roll with the punches and not expect it to be anything in particular. It was quicker than I thought, given that I was induced, I thought I was in there for the long haul. I was surprised at just how well I managed the pain. I was surprised at how hungry I was afterwards!

  • Pammi says:
It was better. Its not as bad as you think its going to be...but its still pretty bad lol

  • Dana says:
I hadn't really anticipated anything... Probably worse only because I thought I'd be able to do it naturally. The epidural was a big disappointment. I really hadn't wanted it.

It was a lot better than I thought. Aside from the epidural that got messed up, I didn't have any pain before or after. I was just exhausted from pushing so hard for so long but I'm thankful I didn't have a c-section.

  • Katie says:
I didn't know what to expect. I guess it was more then I ever dreamed the experience would be!

  • Kerri says:

Worse, I was prepared for things not going the way I imagined but no epidural.....never crossed my mind. Worse pain of my life.

  • Rebecca says:
It was a lot of pain. But after I saw Em for the first time (3 hrs later) it all went away. I would do it over and over again.

  • melissa says:
bad whilst i was in labour....but after it was all over i said it was pretty easy:)

  • Stefanie says:
    much better

  • chloe says:
better! much better! i kept thinking of all the pain i was going to be in but it was manageable

  • Amy says:
Umm words cannot express.........just moreso frustrating that I went through everything that I did.....wanted natural :(

  • Katelyn says:
It was what I was expecting. Do able. You dont really look forward to the pain, but you know at the end you'll have a little one so you just kind of deal with it.

  • Sarah says:
It was much better...I had envisioned hours and hours and hours of walking around the hospital and being in horrible pain.

  • Jessica says:
WIth Adam it was much better then I thought...but only because of the help of the epidural. With Haley and the epidural not working on the one side it was hellish. But she came out with four pushes so better then it wa with Adam in that aspect.

  • Sally-ann says:
is was better than i thought i thought it was going to hurt like shit but not the turn out as i expected

  • Erin says:
I tried really hard not to have too many expectations. Obviously, if I had to choose one I'd say it was harder than I thought--even with the epidural--but there is some truth to the old saying that you forget as soon as it's over.

  • Sherry says:
    WORSE!!!

  • Heidi says:
Better....they both came really fast and with Damien I was hopped up on Stadol so I slept between contractions, and with Dakota we were only at the hospital an hour and a half before he came....so yeah better!!!

  • Krista says:
Better no matter what happens when its over and done with you feel like you were meant to do this. This is why I was put on earth.

  • Nickie says:
How can anyone really know what to expect the first time, but of course WITHOUT any pain meds/epidural, the pain was more than anyone can even imagine, glad it doesn't last forever and then it is true, you have this beautiful little one that makes every contraction worth it!

  • Cera says:
A lot better than i anticipated.

  • Nichole says:
I thought it was going to be way worse but it was still rough

  • Jessica says:
Um, the labor part wasn't too bad, b/c I wasn't really contracting as intensely as I should have been b/c I wasn't dialating. The c-section was completely traumatic! Can't even begin to describe the pain afterward. So worth every minute of the discomfort, but until you have that procedure...ugh!

  • Sarah says:
Pain was worse because it was in my back, but the whole thing was exciting and I can't wait to do it again and again and again....and again??

  • Mandy says:

  • Shannon says:
    Easy.....

  • Amanda says:
I didnt expect to have a c-section so nothing was like i thought it would be but whether it was good or bad it was worth it.

  • Becky says:
It was actually better than expected. I didn't think delivering was hard at all - but then again didn't feel much after I got the epidural. The only complaint I had was I waited until I could not stand the pain anymore to ask for it... but was told he was in an emergency c-section so I think I had to wait almost an hour for him to get there. I was NOT HAPPY!

  • Antoinette says:
it was scary all of them....not every pregancy let along births are all perfect

  • Kim says:
It was about what I expected!

  • Abigail says:
So much better but way faster than I expected.

  • Susan says:
Some parts were better and others were worse, the epidural hurt like crazy, but having the baby didn't really hurt at all, thanks to the epidural, the worst part for me was the afterbirth, the dr was pressing so hard on my stomach I wanted to punch him in his face haha.

  • Angela says:
The labor was not as bad - I used tons of deep breathing and a disassociating exercise. C-section recovery was way worse than I anticipated and much longer.

  • Lara says:
The epidural wore off at the end- and i felt the pain of delivery.

  • Jennifer says:
    better...

  • Ginny says:
    Bettr the second time around

  • Kristine says:
better with Josh b/c I was horrified, Riley was my easiest barely any pain, Anthony almost killed me my blood pressure dropped and I was out of it for a good 5 min's until they hooked me up to oxygen and Grayden was just long b/c I had to spend the night I had a tough pregnancy with him.

  • Amanda says:
I am glad I got to experience labor pains, but am also glad for epidurals :) My text message to my sis after I got the epidural was ' drugs=bliss" But I guess being in labor for more than a day will do that to some people :) Soooo, it was great up until the c-section, but I am grateful for that option since I could have lost my lil one had there not been that option. No home births, EVER, for me.

  • Carly says:
WORSE way worse.. started out well tho.. it was the length of labour that got to me!!

  • Kylie says:
heaps better, i was so scared... knowing that i have to have c-sections all the time i dont mind!!

  • Courteney says:
it was great i was loving the natural experience until she went back to back then i was in agony!!! i really want to have a cmpletey natural experience just once. so i gues it was both

  • Kellie says:
Worse... I watched people on you tube and they had great birth experiences, i didnt prepare myself for the worse i thought i was strong enough to do it!

  • Gemma says:
    so so

  • Krystel says:
blake was fine... it was painful but not as bad as i was expecting... Jet - absolutely excruciating because i was induced.. that intensified the pain... aaagggghhhhhh

  • Megan says:

  • Karen says:
It was a lot worse than anticipated as the plan went out the door

  • Janine says:
The 1st time round was scary, but by the time I had Lily I didn't think too much about it

  • Tahneil says:
    so so .....

  • Nohblee says:
worse, i thought it was going to be longer and not so intense to begin with, i also din expect to have to be induced so i din think i'd have to have monitors on my abdomen the whole time, it was really restricting and i couldnt walk around or shower it was annoying.

  • Rachel says:
It was like nothing I ever expected

  • Jillian says:
    was betterthan anticipated both times

  • Hayley says:
We hadnt thought we would have to go through 19hours of labour before we could have a c-section, considering it was sceduled, but to look back i guess its not as bad as it seemed at the time..

  • Kayla says:
It was the best exerience i have even had in my entire life. Dont get me wrong it hurt like all hell. But after all the pain, i got to hold my beautiful baby girl.

  • Krichelle says:
Braydens was really easy. Kynan and jayla really really hurt lol

i dont think u can imagine it or describe it.......but we all go back for more babies...

  • Misty says:

  • Krystal says:
worse but hey aren't all first pregnancies scary

  • Kaleena says:
very hard the 1st time--I could feel them cutting me; so they had to give me more on the epidural --it ended up knocking me out and I couldn't move my legs for the nxt 4 hrs and he was under oxygen; so I had to get out of bed to go & see him--that took another 4 hrs. to go and see him...which was very hard. with Maddy, I knew what to expect & it was easier to get out of bed to go and see her--she was right across the hall--still under the oxygen, but was still able to see her. Sooner than 8 hrs.

  • Kim says:
No, it was actually the pushing that was harder than I expeced..

  • Cassie says:
it was nothing like i imagined it was much easier

  • Nikki says:
The pain was much worse, but I hear that's how it is with induced contractions. I swear my body was holding onto her with everything it had.

  • Sandy-Lea says:
Umm heaps better comin up to the birth but well how can anyone really anticipate how their birth will go..

  • Tomika says:
neither really cause you know that how ever bad it is at the time you're very soon going to have a little bundle of joy in your arms. I'd go through labour 10 times over again before the pregnancy part.

  • Kariska says:

  • Teremoana says:

  • Michelle says:
Better and worse.Pethadine is wonderful.2nd time around was harder because I was unable to have my son with me or see him for 24 hours.I then had to travel to and from hospital for 4 weeks before he came home 2 days before christmas.

i didn't anticipate anything. but labor HURTS.

  • Amber-Rashel says:
it was everithing I hoped for.

easier than I thought (i was really packing crap about it), knew it'd be really painful but couldn't have guessed the level of pain

  • Jessica says:
I'd have to say different. It hurt a lot but the pain wasn't the kind of pain I thought it would be - more intense pressure. And I mean INTENSE!!! The sort of pressure to make diamonds! lol

  • Emmy says:
lockys was a surprise cause u dunno how painful it is bianca was okaii cause it was quick but all in all it was amazing and worth it once u get to hold ur bubba for the first time.

  • Suzi says:
    Better, way better

  • Susan says:
everytime was way worse than the last

  • Lilly says:
anticipating childbirth in retrospect is hilarious and futile. when it came to the crunch there was nothing that mattered at all apart from just getting through the pain and seeing my son finally. it is a primal instinctual process and i was so much braver and focused than i thought i was capable of.

  • Jenna says:
It was worse than I expected. They could not figure out why my water broke for the longest time because I was not having contractions. I still believe mowing the lawn and hitting some bumps earlier in the day did me in! Mason had ripped the umbilical cord from the placenta and the Dr. still guesses that this was my bodies way of telling me it was shuting down. Very scary once she told me if my water had not broke, my little man would have been a stillborn. He is a miracle in the making. Then I had to have a DNC because the placenta was not all intact and I lost so much blood I almost died....Very scary!!! He was all well worth it though, I love every minute of him.

  • Pam says:
    Better

  • Lacey says:
    i dunno

  • Lucy says:
Hayden's was worse coz he was my 1st but ellie's was pretty easy

  • Rebecca says:
The only negative about any of them was #1 as I was really disempowered and pushed to do something that I wasn't happy to do. I was too tired to fight and learnt my lesson about support people and making sure they know what I want/need. Strange i know but I really love my births, even when I am in the midst of the pain (well all except transition LOL). Nothing like I expected it to be like. Such an empowering experience, especially in your own space.

  • Breanna says:
With Eli it was worse because he almost didn't make it. With Nathaniel, it was much easier.

  • Tara says:
Jeffrey was harder than i thought. After him i turned pro. Obviously

  • Jessica says:
A ton easier, I pushed for 5 minutes how could I complain.

  • Elizabeth says:
Both times: easy-peasy. I don't think I had any expectations, but I did enjoy labor and delivery more than the 9 months of pregnancy.

  • Nicole says:
    better than i anticipated.

  • Gillian says:
My labor was so amazingly easy. I felt no pain. I was 4 cm when they induced me at 9am. By 4 pm I was pushing. My only complaint would have to be the amount of stitches and how sore I was that first night post baby

  • Kiera says:
Alot better...being sewn up hurt much more!

  • Brittany says:

  • Elisha says:
first one no secnd one yes so bad

  • Maxine says:
More pain then I could have have ever imagined

  • Melissa says:
cant put it into words....a little bit of both was very thankful it was over but would go through it all again

  • Amanda says:
First - it went exactly like I could have hoped except that I should have asked to see him sooner or try to nurse. Second - Honestly, my mom had lovely stories about 4 hr and 8 hr labors, so I was expecting things take much less time. Unfortunately... As for the pain, I *might* have been able to handle it no problem if I weren't absolutely exhausted and demoralized from the previous 30 hours. It was pain enough for me.

  • Heather says:

  • Laura says:
Worse, ugh. The stupid anesthesiologist kept asking me if I felt nauseous, and I might have been fine if he had left me alone. I threw up in the middle of surgery, and it took an eternity to get sewn back up after she was delivered. I just wanted to hold her!

I didn't know what to expect, honestly. I went my whole pregnancy thinking I would have her the natural way (with drugs). I was pretty upset when I got to the delivery room b/c I was alone while they prepped me...and when Jim got there, it all became a blur. I remember the doctors and nurses saying, "LOOK AT THAT RED HAIR!!" And all I could say was how much she looked like my grandmother...then I had a horrible recovery! But, the next morning I woke up, saw Savannah...and we've been wrapped around her pinky since :) So all of the above was WELL worth it b/c she's perfect!!!

it was probably worse in some ways, better in others
