My son doesn't sleep at night much. Does anyone else's child who has Aspergers do this?

My son Dalton was diagnosed with Asperger Syndrome and ADHD back in September of last year. Now I am ADD and I have 2 brothers who are ADD and ADHD and my father is ADHD and none of us sleep at night much. LOL I was told that some Aspie kids have trouble sleeping. I can get Dalton to bed at 9 and go upstairs at 1am or 2am and he will still be awake. He isn't playing with anything he isnt watching anything. He just lays there and is wide awake. Any suggestions? Or anyone else have a child that doesn't sleep! =)

Hi, My daughter has problems sleeping too. She is 10 and I have had her on Melatonin for about a year now. Melatonin is what your body naturally makes to make us sleepy, but my DR said alot of aspies lack some melatonin. It isn't like a sleeping pill and keeps them asleep or wake up feeling drugged. It just helps them drift off as naturally as possible. If you child has had a good nights sleep it helps them cope with the following day. I have to have it made up at a compounding pharmacy. Hope this helps.

Our 8 year old daughter was diagnosed with Aspergers a few months ago and has always had trouble sleeping. I am new to this diagnoses but through the research I have done I have found that a weighted blanket helps. We bought one off ebay and it has done wonders for our daughter. I don't know if it works for all children but in our case it has. The weight makes them feel secure and safe. We also run a fan at night to distract from outside noises and we bought an little tykes night light because she is scared of the dark. It sits on her nightstand and looks like a person. Some people say a strict bedtime (time, same before bedtime snack, and same bedtime story) also help. As well as straying lavender on their bed and pillow. I'm not sure if any of this helps but I hope you guys get some sleep soon. I have also seen many positive outcomes of melatonin before bedtime. Good luck!
