We co-sleep with our 12 month old daughter and love it, but do have one problem to work out... she really hates being in the crib (which is in our room as well) for the few hours before my partner and I go to bed. I don't want to leave her alone on the bed for fear of her crawling off while she's still half asleep. There's seems to be a million different bed rails and bumpers, but I don't know if that's even a good solution, many co-sleeping advocates seem to advise against it... help!

Is it possible to set up a nice little cozy sleeping area on your bedroom floor? My daughter never slept in her crib, she always slept on our bed, so until she was much older, I was constantly running into the bedroom to make sure she wasn't close to the edge. When she is older you can try to make a wall out of pillows to try to protect her if she does roll over.

The most helpful is to set up a video  baby cam in the bedroom, that way you are able to see if she is stirring or becoming restless that way you can get back to the room in time to help her fall back to sleep or to reposition her.  My daughter (who is 5) is such a restless sleeper and our baby video cam has come in handy so many times.    It will help ease your mind and you will be able to make sure your baby is safe alseep.

She's okay with naps during the day, and gets out of bed on her own (our mattress is on the floor) but I worry about leaving her on our bed alone at night before we turn in.... and of creating a secondary obstical of bedrails to climb over...

The problem with rails, is a lot of times they just climb over them.  It depends on the child though.  I know a lot of people solve this by pushing the bed against the wall or putting the mattress on the floor until they figure out how not to fall off the bed.  I always put my son to sleep in the middle (we had a king size bed) and put my pillows on one side of him and my husband's on the other and since they were king pillows they were as long as he was.  But he sleept like a rock, so he rarely ever got out of the bed, and when he did he came in the other room, but never fell out.
