I think it is like most people who swear breastfeeding isn't effective BC. They aren't doing everything required to make it the most effective it can be. I think Lactation Amorea (sp...I can't spell today) is about the same amount effective as NFP and the BC pill when used correctly. It just depends on many factors.

And sometimes, babies are to be had no matter what. I have a friend who's first was conceived using condoms, second while she was on the pill, and third while she was on the depo shot. Another friend was a miracle baby because he was born even though his mom had her tubes tied AND his dad had a vasectomy (sp). Nothing is foolproof.

YES, my husband and I have used only NFP during our entire marriage (14+ years and counting), and YES, it does work. We have four children, we know when each was conceived, and were well aware that I was fertile when we conceived each one. Just because a couple who uses NFP has a "large" family does not mean that NFP does not work. NFP is most effective (95-99%) when a couple takes a class from certified instructors who provide follow-up with the couple, and it depends on your motivation if you are using it to avoid pregnancy. I can't imagine using anything else because not only is NFP natural but it respects a woman's body and provides insight into her fertility for both the husband and wife. It is also the only family planning method that requires equal responsibility of both the husband and wife. If you are interested in learning more, find a class in the Ovulation Method or Sympto-Thermal Method in your area.

i would also like to add that i have a friend who does NFP and has this book called "Taking Charge of your Fertility". She offered to let me borrow it, but I declined...she has five kids and most of them were not intended.

i don't use any type of birth control that involves chemicals. my husband and i use the withdrawal method. it's worked for years. we only have 1 child and he was intended. i don't keep track of my fertility, nor do i track cervical changes and i never record my period date. we just avoid letting the sperm get inside...hope that's not TMI but it's worked for us.

I have a very good friend who's wife used this because she was allergic to birth control of all types. She did end up getting pregnant while using it, however, it was six years after they had their son, and it was the only form of BC they ever used. So pretty darn effective, IMO, because no form of BC is fool proof. If you are in tune with your cycles and can recognize signs of ovulation, IE CM or know when you ovulate, it can be pretty effective.
