My son has weaned himself at the age of 3 and 9 months and ever since this milestone, he's had severe temper tantrums when things don't go his way. I try to pick him up to soothe him, but he scratches, kicks, bites, hits and screams and generally takes it out on me. This makes me feel frustrated and I tell him that his behaviour is inappropriate, but his behaviour escalates and I start yelling. If I give him a time out in his room, he will throw things. What can I do to help myself and him to have emotional control? I will never hit my child, but I have felt like I wanted to and this scares me. Thanks in advance.

No, my son is talkative, affectionate, focused and playful, most of the time. This issue that I am having with him is probably due to self-weaning and the delayed process of having to learn to self-soothe or develop emotional control. I am just looking for techniques to help foster emotional control in him and me, and nip his tantrums in the bud.

Hi,
Does he have any developmental "problems"?
Have you read the book "the explosive child"? It is very helpful regarding "temperamental" children and behaviors
