So I get Wic and have a ton of baby food. Is there anything you can use it for? Like recipes or anything? I have a bread recipe that calls for jar squash, and of course the applesauce I can use, but what about the other stuff? He is getting to where he doesn't really want it anymore, though for a while he was eating it, so I kept getting it...and well now I've got a cabinet full of it.... And baby cereal too.

Hrm, I'm a big soup/stew person, but with the weather warm not sure how much I'll be making these days. I boxed up the ton of baby cereal I have for the food pantry, and think I might try using some of your suggestions Fiona for the jarred food. Seems a shame to give it away if I can find use for it. :) Thanks guys!

Soups are always good. You can put anything into them

I make all my own baby food (well he is now just eating mostly what we eat, but I do stew some fruit for him occasionally) so I don't know much about jarred food. But, I used up my last bag of rice cereal by making a sort of fruit custard thing. I was stewing pears one day and the cooking water looked so yummy and syrupy, I didn't want to throw it out. Also I know that it would have so many nutrients that leach out of the cooked fruit. So I mixed it into some rice cereal and added some breastmilk and some pureed stewed fruit to make a custardy looking mush. *edit* I have also done this with apples.

I don't have specific quantities as I just mixed until it looked yummy or until I had used up ingredients. My son loves it, it makes a nice change from plain fruit and as he isn't having dairy or sugar added to any food yet, it is still a nice kind of yummy treat for him.

Is the squash like pumpkin? You could try using it to make pumpkin pie instead of tinned pumpkin. Or pumpkin scones. Peas and beans you could add to stews, soups, spaghetti sauce or casseroles for a bit of extra veg and consistency. If you have strained carrots you could use them to make a carrot cake. Use the banana to make banana cake/banana bread. Mix the sweet potato into mashed potato for a bit of difference. Green beans into gravy adds a sweetness.

Hrm. I have so much, especially the cereal I think I'll take it to the local food pantry and keep some of it, just not all of it. There's a food pantry not a mile from where we live.

Though I like the idea of the past with the food as sauce, I might have to try that. I take it you use the squash or sweet potatoes? I have those two, green beans and peas. Lately I've just been getting applesauce and bannanas because the applesauce of course I can give to my older son too and make applesauce cakes and stuff.

If Im in a rush and need a quick meal i cook some pasta and use baby food as a sauce to coat it in and then let Amelia feed it herself.

I read somewhere about making food Popsicles using breast milk and pureed food (I assume you could use jarred and combine fresh with it?) in those mesh dealie things.

Otherwise, you can always donate it? Local shelter, food bank or church would probably take it. Failing that, I can most likely find a resource through our church social services.....
