Unconditional Parenting by Alfie Kohn
and The Baby Book by Dr. Sears
Unconditional Parenting in particular has been really important when thinking about disciplining an active toddler.

Dr. Sears has a number of books. I started with The Baby Book, and have purchased The Discipline Book, The Successful Child... Great books. Practical parenting tips. Things that Dr. Sears and his family actually used... Love them!

I know what you mean Marcy, I've gotten rid of all the ones I was given too. That's why I was hoping you guys might have something more reasonable. Thanks for the suggestions.

I tossed all of the ones that I got for my shower...what a joke. Actually about the only books I reference back to constantly are all of the Dr. Sears ones which I have in my home office. We were fortunate enough to have him as a doctor and use their lactation consultant when our son was born. Insurance issues caused me to make a change to another Pediatrician but I find his entire family and the values they hold right in line with how we parent.
