I've been having a tough time getting my little boy to sit still to have his teeth brushed. He did ok for a while, but now he really fights it. I don't want to make it such a struggle that he hates brushing his teeth, but I also don't want to give in have him end up with bad teeth. Any suggestions?

I started when he was about 11 months... I just randomly created a song about brushing teeth and some how he like brushing his teeth. Also, I would make him laugh... then he has to open his mouth... and that's when I would brush his teeth... Oh another thing I tried was... I would say "Ahh" and pretend that I am brushing teeth... and he want to copy what I am doing, so eventually, he want to bruch. :)

I just let Ray chew on his toothbrush. I put a bit of toothpaste on his brush and sit him in the tub and he chews on it! it works a charm

I struggle with my daughter for a little bit then hand her the toothbrush. SHe is SO independent that it is hard sometimes. Maybe if I let her "pick out" the toothpaste she would be more apt- it was very different with my oldest who wanted me to brush her teeth.

Richie won't let me brush his teeth. When I brush mine, he wants his tooth brush so I let him chew on it for a bit. I'm hoping as he gets older it gets easier!

I have 2 toothbrushes for my daughter, one she carried around and just chewed on it and got used to and the other I keep up for teeth brushing. They were exactly the same toothbrush and I made sure to get the same color brush as my own and she would come into the bathroom while I brushed my teeth. After a couple days she couldnt wait to brush her teeth with " Mommy's toothbrush" :)

I brush Philip's teeth while he is sitting in the tub for bath time. I usually can get a quick brush across his teeth, then he takes over and chews on the brush for a while. I have not tried toothpaste yet, but I think I am going to start asap.

Margaret, that toothpaste is the best. It is safe to swallow and the kids love the flavor!!

There are some fun songs that can help. Jo Jo's Circus "Brush your teeth little lion" My kids love it. I sing it when they are brushing their teeth.

I just give my son his toothbrush and let him chew on it for a while. I think it gets the job done.

I had an awful time also with my son. I found the toothpaste was key. I tried 3 different ones and he hated them. Then I found this Thomas The Train real kid toothbrush and gel (I think I bought it at Babies R Us) and I ask him to show me his teeth on the top then the bottom and now it works. I change up holding him v. letting him stand depending on his mood. My girlfriend has had luck allowing her son to do it himself.
