Depending on birthdays, where does everyone stand on starting our 2007 babies in Kindergarten this coming school year?

In our area the cut off is Sapt 1. Both my boys barely make it. Sam will be 5 Aug 16th and Payton Aug 29th. So I mean just make it. They have both went to preschool for 2 years. I talked w/ their teacher this last year to make sure that they are ready to send them on. She assured me many times that they will be just fine in Kindergarten. They are both really excited to go to the big school next year. I think that everything will be ok. But it really all depends on the child. Not to scare any one but my brother is an August birthday and just makes the cut off w/ an Aug 11 b-day. He went to kindergarten and then on to 1st grade. 9 weeks in the school realized that he might not be ready for Kindergarten and suggested he go back to Kindergarten. My mom agreed as long as he was in all day kindergarten. My cousin also a Aug b-day did 2 years ok prek and started kindergarten and did just fine. Honestly it all depends on the child. I would talk to their pre k teacher and do what you think is best for your child. Good Luck

We're in CA where the cutoff date is being adjusted from 12/1 to 9/1 over the course of 3 years. My daughter is 11/2, and the cutoff changed this year to 11/1. We applied for early admission, her preschool teachers all gave big thumbs up on her maturity and readiness, but the public school district cancelled her early admission request because they finally decided to offer transitional kindergarten. Since that program is a preschool program and she's beyond it, we are biting the bullet to get both kids (brother is going into 3rd) into private school. The kids have been at the summer camp there only 2 days and are already super happy there. If she weren't ready it would have been different, but she's already doing basic first grade math skills and emotionally she's totally prepared.

My parents sent me to kindergarten early also - I'm a December baby and the cutoff was 12/1. I do feel that sometimes feeling immature, being teased (we are also petite, myself and my kids) and confidence COULD be an issue, but if the kids are taught to believe in themselves, I don't think it would be a problem. I've grown up feeling unique, not worrying about what others think of me, and self-confident for the most part and feel my kids can do the same, with my help.

Out here the cut off is Aug 31. My sons bday is Oct. 4, so he just misses it. My husband and I have talked about having him tested out so he can start this year, he is so smart and has already has had a year of pre-k..... but we decided against it. I dont think it will hurt him any to wait another year. I'd rather him be overly prepared then not prepared enough. So he'll go to pre-k again this year, for three days a week instead of two.

My daughter is an August baby, and her birthday falls a couple days after the school year begins. My child's school gave me the okay to enroll her in Kindergarten, despite the late birthday, so I suppose it depends on the school...I'd say it's best to keep your options open, and research other schools. Testing a child that young is frustrating for both parent and child, and something I wouldn't suggest you put him through. I've never heard of a cutoff date that early, especially since school normally starts late August or early September. Check with other schools and your state to find out if this is the norm, or if it's just the school itself, and do what will make both you and your child happy in the long run.

Our cut off date is sept . 15.. My daughter will be 5 on August 30th..She is in prek at a Montessori school now and will be in the same class next year for kindergarten..We have decided to send her.. Im nervous about her going all day but i think she will be fine as so does her teacher..

The cut-off in NJ is 10/1. My Shawn's bd is 8/29. We decided to enroll him even though he will just be 5. If he doesnt do well, now is the time to hold him back. Hes in pre-k and the curriculum is pretty much the same as kindergarten. Hes doing well....we will see!!

My daughter will be 5 on Aug 15 and the cutoff in our state is the end of September. She will be starting kindergarten and i'm more nervous about her starting school than i was my 7 year old. We had to hold him back a year b/c of his birthday being in October but it was best that we do that. I am happy we have done that. If we wanted we could hold her back as well but she is more than ready for KTN.

Go ahead and take the test and see how he does. If you aren't ready and he is happy with your routine, what's the rush? My son is soo ready. He goes to prek and loves spending time with friends, but he also misses his time at home, so it's a give and take. Go with your gut.

Cut-off dates vary from state to state and even counties in the state. It isn't that my son wouldn't be "ready" I'm thinking I may not be ready for him to start. I also don't want others accusing me of holding him back so that he would be "bigger and stronger" than the other boys in regards to sports. We are big in sports and we HAD to hold our oldest back due to a Nov. birthday and he's not a small boy at 8 yo. We get the comments and looks from other parents during baseball and football season, but I didn't make the rule. Now with our youngest he can test in, but should we or shouldn't we test? I also have friends who say hold him back another year. I guess the true test will be if he even passes the early entrance test.

It depends on where you live as far as cutoff date for school. My county is Sept. 1. My sons birthday is Aug. 8th. He's been in Prek already and is fine. I'm going to start him off to Kindergarten.

wow really? I thoguth the cut-off date was December 31???My daughter was born Aug 20th 2007 and started school last September. She loves it and is doing very good.
