Potty training a stubborn boy

I started potty training my son at 1 and half years and he did great for about 2 months then decided he didn't want to anymore. I kept trying till he was almost 4 years old and I knew that my son knew where the potty was and that he knew he was to go pee and poop in it. He was great about peeing in the potty but just had a few accidents, but the pooping was an issue. So I was tired of clean out dirty pants and one day I just put him strictly in big boy underwear and told him if he pee'd or pooped in them he was to clean them out! The first day he pooped in them and I stuck him in the bathtub with a pair of gloves and he cleaned out his own dirty pants, he has rarely pooped in his pants again except for the rare accidents when he had an upset stomach. Its harsh but works on stubborn kids!

Some toddlers are slower than others. The 'connections' are just not there or not ready. By 'trying everything' you may well just have got him fixated and worried about it all. Personally ... I would give it a few weeks and try again ... if it doesn't work ... leave it again for another few weeks. He is still very young ... and often boys can be slower at potty training... Just be patient... and it will happen when you least expect it !!!

I just told someone else on here too. My mother in law got my son a potty chair and a potty box(a box filled with toys and little candy) And his chair is in the living room so he can watch tv. and I praise him when he goes. And don't put diapers on him except for bedtime. My son always pees on the potty now. He's pooped once the day he got it but now he just goes in his pants, not pee just poop, so I've learned to keep him naked all the time. LOL!

I was lucky to have a good daycare provider. She would put my son on the toilet every half hour. I tried to do the same at home. She started when he was just under 2. I struggled with potty trainning and at times just gave up the idea for a couple weeks. I went to my mom's when he was about 3 1/2 and he just started going on his own.
My cousin said her friend bought underwear with cars on it. When her son pooped in them she threw them out. He freaked out but she told him that if you go in your underwear they go in the garbage. She never had an issue again.
