My son will be 4 at the end of Aug & we all know what that means... He starts school in Sept!!! I am so nervous about this whole thing I have been a stay at home mom from day 1 & being away from him even for 2 1/2 hrs is making me nuts! This is the best for us both considering I will be looking for a full time job once he gets used to the 2 1/2 hours a day. Once that happens he will in school for a full day :( I cant imagine being away from him for so long UGH :(

my daughter started at three (she will go for two years of prek). my other daughter started at two and went three years (she has an oct birthday so she started right before she turned three and started kindergarten close to six). i would say don't worry! your son will be fine! he will love the socialization, pick up skills needed for kindergarten, learn how to follow directions, and listen. those are all key points to get ready for kindergarten and he will be so much better off in the end being ready for kindergarten then if he didn't go. they expect kids to know so much before they go. if they don't know it, then they consider them behind and won't let them go until the following year. they have to know how to count to 25, their abc's, how to write their abc's, all the letter sounds, how to write their names, shapes, colors, how to write to 10, plus other things. they also have to know how to follow directions and listen. plus any problems will be addressed in preschool... vision, hearing, health, learning concerns, gross motor, fine motor, speech, and what ever else will be looked at and addressed and fixed BEFORE he starts kindergarten. which means he will be even more ready for kindergarten if there are problems and they are caught and fixed beforehand. you don't want him to start off the year of kindergarten with problems or not being ready or not knowing how to be in school. i can tell when a child doesn't go to preschool compared to a child that does when they start kindergarten. if he goes to preschool he will be better prepared for kindergarten and he will have more confidence and be more willing to go. you will have a different boy when he is done preschool. it is will be an amazing transformation. he will do great! he will love it! my daughter does. at first she was scared and didn't want to get on the bus but after a week or two she begged me to go everyday! i could not imagine anyone not sending their kids to preschool... i would find that sad.
