51/2 month old not pooping

Ok it's been almost a week no poop we have been on and off of cereal but she is only breastfeed now she does not go poop. Feed her prunes but now I'm going to try this apple juice wish me luck

mine went 13 days without a poop. she was fine, exclusively breast-fed at that time. her digestive system just didn't produce any waste. as long as baby isn't too uncomfortable and seems happy, i wouldn't worry too much. good luck

I just started a post because I didn't see this one.  today is day 16 with no poop!!  took her to the dr today and she said everything looks ok.  I am supposed to start her on oatmeal (she has only been breast fed up to this point) and contact my dr in 48 hours........

My daughter has the same problem and my ped told me to use apple juice. 2 oz each day, and if that doesnt work get a juice that is a little bit darker all the way up to prune juice. So far it seems to work when I remember to give it to her before she eats otherwise she wont drink it.

My daughter did that and her doctor told me to give her 3oz of apple juice she went that day.

Ped also recommended lactulose, which you can ask your pharmacist for.  I've given my daughter about 1 cc a day until she got used to the pushing sensation again.  Now she poos like a champ (lucky me...).

...its ok...my son sometimes goes 3 or 4 days without having a stool...his dr says it ok so im fine with it...normally on the 3rd or 4th day i will ask him to give me a little poo poo and he goes all out and gives me a diaper full..lol...

Emilia goes about once a week.  She is exclusively breast fed and has had that pattern since she was 3 months old.  I think it stresses me out more than her.  You tcan ell when it is time for her to go, she has extra smelly gas.  I am hoping that once we start her on solids she will be more regular.

my son use to not poop for 4 days to its fine it is common in breast feed babys not to poop for days he will start pooping once a day and then will not poop for three days thats how my son is

5-7 days between pooping for a breastfeed baby is normal...there's not alot of waste in breastmilk

I had the same problem when I started cereal.  Rylee went a week without pooping.  Before cereal she went at least once a day, and she is breastfeed only.  Here are the things my doctor suggested and she finally pooped.

switch to oatmeal cereal instead of rice (less binding) and make the cereal runnier, sit in warm water, take her temp rectally, give 1 oz diluted apple juice (1 tbsp juice, 1 tbsp water) once a day

mY SON IS 5 MONTHS OLD AND FOR ABOUT TWO MONTHS NOW THAT'S THE SAME THING GOING ON WITH HIM.i TALKED WITH HIS DOC AND ANOTHER THEY SAID IT'S FINE.sOME BREAST FED BABIES WITH OR WITHOUT CEREAL DO THIS.pj GETS CEREAL IN ALL OF HIS BREASTMILK BUT HIS BELLY ISN'T BLOATED AND HE ALWAYS SEEMS FINE.hE GOES MAYBE EVERY FIVE DAYS.nOW i WAS TOLD AND i DO THIS,GIVE HIM 1 OZ.BABY APPLE JUICE WITH 1 OZ. WATER EVERY OTHER DAY.hE LOVES IT AND HE'S ALWAYS FINE!dON'T WORRY

I also nurse my daughter, and from the time we came home from the hospital she would go 2-3 days between poops, and then since we are on cereal and fruits and veggies now, she goes every day! It really seems backwards to me since breast fed babies usually go often and then slow down when food is introduced...all babies are just different this way, I guess!

yup definitely normal; my ped said they can go 3 days without a bowel movement but if we were concerned to give her a bit of diluted prune juice. i've also read that rice cereal will often make babies constipated as well so try the prune juice if you're concerned.

It's normal! My son does the same thing. I asked the dr. and as long as they aren't unconfortable, it's fine. I can tell when my son is about to have a large explosive poop b/c his belly sticks out a bit. He usually goes 3 days and then will go a couple of times and then nothing again for a few days. I think if they don't go for a week, then the want you to give a suppository. A warm bath sometimes works and massaging their belly clockwise. DON'T rub in the opposite direction b/c you can cause more problems.
