Any babies walking yet?

Abby turned a year on the 13th and isn't walking yet. She isn't even really acting like she wants to. She can stand up on her own and she can walk while holding onto something, but she doesn't show any interest in letting go.

My son is 13 months old as of the 6th and he didn't start walking until a week or 2 after he turned a year. He would take a step or two but he didn't show much of an interest before that.

Quoting Pamela:

My daughter started letting go of furniture around 11 months but would only take a few steps. about 2 weeks before her birthday (aug 9) she just took off. Now she is everywhere and into everything. My son, who is now 3-1/2, was running at 11 months. They are both big kids and very advanced in their motor skills. However not all kids are like that. Both mine and my husbands families are known for early walking (my brother was 5-1/2 months old when he started).Don't be discouraged unless she is not walking by 16-18 months. Make sure to let her walk without shoes on as they use their toes to grip the floor. Use shoes only if going somewhere or if you are on the pavement. Don't but into the hard soled shoe old school thinking. Soft very flexible soles are the best. And they do NOT need to be expensive.

Flexible aren't always best... For my Abby, once we got her a sturdy pair of flat, hard soled shoes she was walking 10x better within minutes of having them on versus her bare feet or flexible shoes. Try everything and find what works for your precious Abby.

My husband did not walk until 15 months, I did not walk until 13 month, and our son started at 9 months. He has always been in a hurry to get going. The only problem is that since he has started walking he has to walk everywhere and it takes us so long to get anything done when we go places. :)

don't worry, she isn't behind at all! She will just all of a sudden let go and take a few steps. Then it will become more and more often she will take a few more steps.

My son turned 1 on August 1st and he just started taking a few steps on his own. He still prefers crawling because it's faster and he doesn't fall. I can get him to walk when he stands on his own and I'll hold something he wants. He'll take a step forward to get it and I'll keep walking backwards with the item. He'll start to follow while taking steps. I got my daughter to start walking that way too. She didn't walk until 14 months old.

My son is doing the same thing. He is 13 months old now. I asked the doctor about it and all he said was that as long as they are walking by 16 months it is fine., My other son didn't start walking till he was 14 months. So I guess between u and me we have to just be patient huh. LOL

Its so funny that the answer really depends on who you ask. There was talk on another thread that 1 yr is behind schedule and the norm was 9 months. Ridiculous! EVERY baby is different, and I don't believe that it dictates how their motor skills will be later on. Neither of my children walked at 1 yr. My oldest had NO interest in walking or crawling! He went from rolling, to commando crawl to cruising. Then from 8 months to 15 months- nothing happened. One day- he just ran to me at 15 months old. He skipped right over walking, taking cute steps, etc..

My youngest (born 8.13) is following the same pattern. He will not walk. When I put him down on his feet, he just plops down on his bottom. He'll do it when he's ready!! =D

Good Luck and not to worry!!

My baby turned one on the 7th of August, 2009. She started walking at 11months old. When she turned 11 months, she was 3 weeks potty training. It's a blessing. Now my baby can call my name 'Mami', can call nana and a few words we teach her if she needs something. Just keep on talking u will be amazed what these babies can do. And remember babies are different.

My daughter turned 1 on the 20th and has been walking since she was 9 months. We live in an apartment so there wasn't much room for her to "take-off". When we went to my BFs parent's she was taking 6 steps...2 days into the vacation she was running around everywhere.

Hi. Aren't you the lucky one? My son was born 24th he's been walking for months, now into running and climbing and generally driving me crazy! Unfortunately with an early walker it's more hard work as he has absolutely no sense of danger. He's constantly falling down steps and chasing other kids around. He's been pretty early in all his development including talking but I think it is down to him going to nursery and trying to keep up with the older kids, having said that he was trying to walk at 5 months so he was always determined to get around! Keep us posted on the little ones first steps, it's so exciting for about a week then you kinda wish they were a bit more still! haha

My son, born August 27th, took his first step at 7 1/2 months and was walking confidently by 8 months, but he still can't clap his hands properly. It just goes to show that all kids develop at there own pace.

My daughter turned 1 on August 16th. She had been cruising since June, and took her first few steps somewhere in the middle of July. About 3 days before her birthday, she shimmied out of my lap and just started walking back and forht. Amazing! My cousin's daughter turned 1 in July, and still is not even considering walking. I've heard of some kids who start as late as 18 months, and some who start as early as 8 or 9. Each kid seems to just decide for themselves when they're ready. Also, she didn't have any special "walking shoes" although everyone kept telling us she needs them. Don't let them sell you, girl! :)

Oliver (8/14) took his first steps at 11 months....and actually started walking at 11 and a half months. He's been going non stop ever since. He learnt with one of those push behind things, I didn't think he was ever going to let go and do it on his own since he didn't act like he wanted to, but he had to build up trust in himself to let go! But, he would only walk without shoes on..he just started walking in shoes about a week ago! Hang in there...it'll come in due time!!

My little girl just turned one last week and she is barely standing. She certainly can't stand by herself, therefore we are a ways off before she will walk. I'm not worried. I just think she isn't in any hurry to do much. I didn't walk until I was 17 mths old, and I am fine.

my daughter just turned a year on Aug 8th, and she isn't walking yet. Infact she isn't even try to stand and try to hold onto something. She can stand up, but not for long and we have to support her for her to do that. The doctor said not to worry because babies have until 18 mths to walk. We have tried everything to try and get her to stand on her own and try to walk. I can't help worrying if she is going to get motivated enough to walk soon.

Its different for all kids... I dont think it neccesarily means anything as long as they are walking by the age of 2. My first starting walking at 10 months... my third started walking at 11 months... I have a friend that has a 14 month old that only walks on her knees. That child seems fine in every other aspect, but I'm no professional... so I dont know. My sister started walking at 8 months, and myself at 10... my sister is def. a lot more athletic and active than I am.

Yeah, I'm not really worried about it.  I was just wondering if anyone else's babies had started walking or not.  I know she'll get it when she's ready.  She tries to walk on her knees, too.  lol.  I forgot to mention that in my post.  Thanks for the feedback though.  I know I started walking before I was 12 months.  Hopefully she starts walking before Halloween.  I really don't want to carry her around while we're out trick or treating.

That makes me feel better.  Her doctor keeps telling me that most babies don't start walking until they're about 15 months.  Maybe she'll do just like she did before she started crawling.  Before she started to crawl, she never showed any interest in being on her belly.  She would kick and scream if you put her on her belly and she would just roll over onto her back.  Then one day she just got down on her hands and knees and took off!  She never did the army crawl or anything.  Maybe one day I'll just look down at her and she'll be taking off!
