My daughter will be 1 in couple of days. I'm thinking to make her a birthday cake. I noticed some people's cakes are regular cakes. Or at least look like regular cakes. I try to give my baby as little sugar as possible. Please let me know if you have any suggestions or ideas!!! Or I should not worry too much about sugar???

Thank you very much for the replies. I probably make layer of pancakes with yorgurt cream. And lots of fruits. :)

We had a regular bakery birthday cake for my son. He didn't eat it. He played with it a bit but thats it. I wouldn't worry too much. It's a once a year (maybe) thing. It's not like they eat it all the time. I looked at it as a special treat...and the funny thing is he didn't even like it!!

My baby has never had refined sugar so I did not want to give her a regular birthday cake either. I found a website with recipes for healthier cakes for babies, wholesomebabyfood.com. I used one that had no sugar at all and was made mostly with bananas. Doesn't sound like it would but it actually tasted pretty good!

My Mother used to use applesauce in her cakes, because it was better for us. I don't think you should stress too much over the birthday cake sugar though-it only happens once a year ;o)
