My son, just about 6 mo. old used to take a bottle once in awhile. Now that I want to quite breastfeeding he will not take a bottle. I've tried breastmilk in the bottle and formula and he won't take either. Just wondering if anyone has any suggestions on things that have worked for them. I am at a point as to wether I should just continue breastfeeding or try giving a sippy cup with formula?

We have started him on a sippy cup with formula now.  He does drink a little bit out of it, not enough to totally go to a sippy cup, but he does pretty good.  The sippy cup doesn't have a valve in it and is really easy for them to get the liquid out of it.  They sell them at Walmart for really cheap (some no name brand!).  Will keep you updated on what's next, may still try some different bottle or sippy cup and I think the plan will be to breastfeed till he's got the sippy cup mastered and can drink more out of it!

Okay, so I tried to give my son formula in his Nuby sippy cup tonight (which he loves), he gagged. :( I wish I could help you! If I could, that'd mean that I've got this all figured out, lol.

I'm having the same problem! And yes, I know that breast milk is best, but sometimes that's not the only thing to be taken into consideration. I don't really have a choice and HAVE TO get him weaned. :( We've started training him on a sippy cup. He does pretty well, but he also wants to chew on it a lot, he has been teething. Try the Nuby sippy cups, they have a soft spout, more like a bottle nipple and they're not as hard for them to suck on (like a regular sippy cup, with a valve in them). Now, or problem is trying to get him to take formula. He takes water and juice w/water, but ends up playing with it a lot. At least he likes it, lol. But, we need to get him to actually drink more and to take formula. This is a start, though! They have them at Walmart really cheap. I think they were about $1.75 or so. Good luck! Keep me posted on your progress and I'll do the same! :)

Are you the one trying to give him the bottle? If yes, try someone else. If not, try you giving the bottle. My first 2 would not let me give them a bottle but my 3rd will not let anyone else do it because food has to come from Mommy. Aren't they contrary little critters? lol

He is telling you he is not ready to be weened from the breast yet.  Breast is best and babies knows it!  :)

I went back to work about two months ago and my breastfeed daughter still won't take a bottle while I'm away. This is after taking a bottle very well up until she ws about eight weeks old. I tried every bottle (including adiri), cup, and spoon I could find with breastmilk, formula, juice, and water, holding her, sitting up, laying in her crib, watching a video, and bouncing on an exercise ball (per recommendation I saw online). We even tried baby boot camp where I wasn't supposed to breastfeed her at all for a weekend to try to get her taking the bottle. She went for fourteen hours without eating and I couldn't take it any more. Everyone tells me that if they get hungry enough they will eat so if you want to stop breastfeeding perhaps you should just stop and he'll catch on. Perhaps you should still pump for a couple of days in case you need to start breastfeeding him again? If you google "baby refuses bottle" there are a ton of sites that have advice from moms. Good luck and I hope you have more success than I have!

I don't use formula but my baby didn't want to take a bottle with mama's milk either. I have a ton frozen...LOL Someone suggested the Adiri bottle. I tried it and it works. She's only used it twice, but it's nice to know that she can.

Also, We do give her water in a sippy cup...she's used the sippy cup more then the bottle. Try the sippy cup.
