my daughter cat naps during the day.....she will only sleep for about 20 minutes at a time during the day. However, she sleeps all night long from about 9:00pm-8:00am. is their anyone else going through this or can anyone offer some tips on getting her to sleep longer or should i leave well enough alone?

my son is excatally the same its a good thing! there bodies have got in to a normal sleep pattern this is difficult for most babies. we are very lucky as most babies dont do this for quite some time. Your baby is getting all the sleep she needs through the night so dont worry

i think i'd go crazy b/c with my first one i'd sleep during the day when he slept so i could wake up with him when he got up at night. he was late to bed early to rise and he took 1-2 hour naps during the day. Claire just takes a couple 30 min naps druing the day and goes to bed late and sleeps in late. Most days she sleeps til nine but some days she sleeps til 10

Mine is also only taking cat naps, either in the sling or for about 30 minutes (twice a day) in his bed. However, he doesn't sleep through the night and wakes up 2-4 times at night. He also always wakes up crying... No idea what to do to change that...

Maddy does the same.  I am totally not going to fight it!  As long as they are getting their sleep at night that is all that really matters!  They will sleep when they are tired.  You're lucky!  My first two didn't sleep through the night!

my son has been doing the cat naps during the day since he was 4wks old, and at night sleeps from 10pm and 10am(or later) he is getting into sleeping 10-10 at night and then taking a 3hr nap anywhere between 2-6 and one mini cat nap after dinner then a bottle before bed and hes good to go.

Thank you all for your responses. I feel better knowing Claire's not the only baby who does that. My little boy never did that so it's all new again. They are so different. However since then she has started sleeping more during the day. So i guess it was a phase that she out grew.

Sounds like my baby girl, I perfer her to up during the day and sleep all night.  Even though it is hard to get things done with her awake.

My daughter does the same thing. Sleeps from about 7:30pm-7:30am. During the day her naps are about 30 min. each. her doctor said she is getting enough sleep if she wakes up happy.

My son was born on August 12th and he does the same thing.  It crazy how they can do that.  The only way he will sleep longer during the day is if I hold him the whole time but I don't want to get him used to that and I have to work so that doesn't happen.  My inlaws babysit 2 days a week but he won't sleep longer than 20 mins. even if they hold him the whole time.

My daughter does the same, she sleeps when she needs too. Sometimes she will fight sleep during the day and get fussy when she is tired. Usually a large bottle and patting her butt will put her right to sleep for at least an hour. Some days she is up all day and some days she will sleep almost all day, I just go with her.

I would say that's normal. My Alex, born on Aug 24th, sleeps through the night as well. The doctor told me they need about 14 hours of sleep. When they get 10-11 of that at night, they don't need to sleep as much during the day.

My son has done the exact same since he was 2 weeks old, i get about 3 cat naps during the day and that is it, i think all that matters is as long as there happy and it dosent bother them Kayden is happy as anything doing this all it means is that he goes to bed early he goes to bed at 6.30 and sleeps alnight apart from one dream feed which we give him at 10.30pm and he has been doing this for ages. I wouldnt be too concerned i was as the start but at the end of the day i thought well he is happy and i cant force him to sleep and he seems to cope with it fine. Good luck

Wow, how old is she? My baby is three months old and doesn't sleep all through the night yet. Sounds like she's a normal baby to me. The older they get the less they need to sleep during the daytime especially since she sleeps so well at night!
