My 5 month old son and I live in South Dakota where the weather is very cold. Landon has been coughing a lot lately. It's a phlemy cough that sometimes makes him throw up. He is not running a fever, but I am very concerned with his cough. Should I be worried and making a doctor's appointment??

My son had an ear infection and that same cough you are talking about (i think).  My doctor put him on amoxicillian for 10 days.  It seemed to help.  He still coughs a bit but the congestion is gone.  I call the pediatrician about a lot.  I am a new first time mom so I don't know what I should call about and shouldn't.  But they still put up with me...

Oh by the way. get a cool mist humidifier and be careful it can turn into an ear infection. Just monitior it and give him motrin and keep that little head covered!

I would go to the Dr's he could have a cold. My son at 5 months just got his first cold and it also came with a plemy cough. Dr said it was ok as long as you keep an eye on it and it always SOUNDS productive. If it sounds tight or not productive you def need to call the Dr. We were also old to use saline drops for his nose to and that has really helped!!

My nephew was sick for the longest time. And his mother told my brother that the doctor said he was fine and couldn't prescribe anything for him.  Finally after a month my brother took him to a new doctor when he had him on his visitation day and it turned out he had an ear infection and a really bad cold.

Thank you, I will keep an eye on him and if it's not better by Saturday I will call them back.

When my son had his cough my doctor prescribed a cough medicine for him and then it turned out it was bronchitus and he gave me more prescriptions for him. Your doctor should be able to prescribe something for it and if the doctor says he can't prescribe anything then he is lying to you.

I did that and she told me to just put him in the bathroom with the shower on for the steam. I'm very worried...

I would call the doctor just to besafe.  I think it would be better to nip it in the butt before it turns into anything worse.
