Has anyone switched or thought about switching from the crib to a toddler bed? Our crib converts and am not sure when to make the switch.

We recently switched our 16 month old to the toddler bed because she wouldnt sleep in her crib! So far its going well. I bought a gate and put it in front of her bedroom door, so when she crawls out of the bed, she cant wander around. So if she does get ouf of her bed she has some toys there in her room, and she just sits and plays!

I put my daughters mattress right on the floor, she fell off the first night or two but now she has no problems , she has been in a big girl bed since she was 12mon. she loves it she sleeps better now than she did in her crib.

We moved our son to the toddler bed when he was 15 months old. He has done wonderful with it so far. He did fall out the first 2 nights, but it is less than a foot to the floor and he got up and got back into the bed and went back to sleep right away. To help make the transition easier for him we put the toddler bed in his room when he turned a year and at night we would sit and read books to him on it and what not so he could get use to being in it and seeing it. By 15 months he was ready to sleep in it at night. He has loved it so far which is good because we have a 2 month old that will be moving to the crib soon.

I'm glad I'm not alone in my hesitation to convert my 16 mo. old to a big boy bed. Every mother I've spoken to has said to wait as long as possible. We are expecting another child in 3 months and are moving our 16 mo. old to his NEW big boy room. I'm so scared our son is going to start waking up and hoping in bed with us. I'm okay with sharing our bed with him as an occasional treat, but not every night. Especially when our newborn comes and sleep will be so difficult anyway.
We plan to keep our newborn in the bassinet in our room for the 1st three months and start introducing our 16 mo. old to his new room/bed. My goal is to have his new room complete by the end of this month, so he can start getting familiar with it. Wish us luck. AND if anyone has any additional suggestions please post.

Regarding the Grow Bag/sleep sack. OneStepAhead.com sells the ones with open holes for their feet. I use with my 16 mo old because he's up walking around the crib. I don't think you need to use a duvet/blanket if you have that. They come in a bunch of sizes and are fleece.

I switched my little one to the bottom bunk of my son's bunkbeds in November. Lilly was 15 months... she started climbing out of her crib at night and I was afraid she was going to hurt herself. I just went and got bedrails from a second hand store and she did great. It took about a week to sully adjust, but now she climbs in and is ready to sleep. Good luck with the transition... I spent a few nights in bed with her at 3am :) I have now switched a crib to a toddler bed with either of my kids so maybe that would be easier :)

Hi Kahlea, what did you do about duvet - di she get on with it straight away, was she in a grobag until then - maybe not. Can't imagine my son sleapping under a duvet as he turns around so much in the night? What did you do?

Do any of you guys worry about your kid crying and banging on the door to get out and throwing a fit. .my little girl is 16 months and she HATES going to bed! She cries in her crib until she finally falls asleep. I thought about getting her a big girl bed but I dont know if she is ready for it yet. any suggestions?

We switched our 16 month old to a twin bed on Dec 30th and we haven't had any problems! She is still sleeping through the night. She can climb in and out of it herself and won't fall out because there are safety rails on both sides.

I'm afraid if I switch to the toddler bed Braylon will roll out during the night. Does anyone have that problem?

My daughter wouldn't sleep through the night it was really bad she probably work up atleast 3 times a night so we decided to try a big girl bed Hailey had just turned ONE when we did this. I used our spare mattress and put it on the floor in her room that way it was low to the floor (no boxspring). This way if she was going to fall off she wouldn't get hurt. Ever since I switched she has slept through the night. I know 12 months sounds young but I'm telling you it made a world of difference. So I would say from my experience if your little one is not sleeping good in there crib at night you might want to make the switch. Also maybe the mattress that they are sleeping on is to hard thats what our problem was. I hope this may help someone. best of luck!

I am thinking of doing the same soon too but my concern is the duvet? My son currently sleeps in a gro bag and has done from 3 months so this is all he knows. When you change to a bed then surely youhave to change to a duvet too. Worried he might kick this off and get cold or not get on with it at all. Would it be an idea to introduce a duvet to the cot before I switch to a bed? Whats your exprience?

My 16 mo. old sleeps through the night in his crib and doesn't climb out. I'm waiting until I see a need to switch it over. I don't want to mess with what works!

I switched my son into a toddler bed a month ago (15mo). It's been wonderful! We all have been getting sleep and he goes straight through the night.

i put my 15 month little girl in a toddler bed and she loves it as she can get in to bed all on her own

[deleted account]

No, I still can't get mine to sleep in her crib-- period! I'm now intrigued wondering if the 18 month marker would be good. I feel like we wasted money on a crib but it does convert. She will sleep on a cot at daycare so I think there is something to this.
BTW, love your Bull Terrier! We have one too!

This is a good question. I have wanted to switch my toddler over, the only problem is that when I put him in the bed, I am worried he will get out of the bed and try to play instead of sleep. Does that make sense?

I have been wondering the same thing, from what I've read most people switch when their chil starts to climb out of the crib, which mine doesnt yet, my problem is my daughter wont sleep in her crib thru the whole night, so I was wondering if switching to a toddler bed (mine converts as well) would help my situation. My sister-in-law didnt switch my neices bed till she was 3, and my friend switched her sons at 9 months...Personally I think 3 is too old and 9mo is a lil young i think right around 18mo or so is good but it depends on u and ur child! good luck!
