Anybody feeding thier baby fish yet? I read an article in Babytalk that says we should feed them fish before 9 months because of the brain boosting omega 3s. I'm thinking of giving my son salmon. How do you prepare it for yours? and how often do you give it?

I've read that Sole or Haddock are the best fish to buy because they are least allergenic and have the least mercury content. I have a friend that cooked the fish in milk because apparently it takes away a bit of the fishy flavor and you can use the milk to puree it with too. I just bought fish fillets (Sole) and will introduce it to me 7.5 month old son this week.

I just introduced fish 3 days ago. I bought a can of skinless boneless salmon (next to the tuna) and just used my fingers to make sure it was really broken up. I mixed it with applesauce for the first feeding and with butternut squash for the second feeding because otherwise it was really dry. He loved it! I divided the 5 oz can into 4 portions.

Is it possible to give him too much fish in one feeding? Or can I puree it and give him as much fish to eat as I give him veggies to eat? Can I feed him til he's full, or is there a limit to how much he should have at once?

Here's a short piece about fish and recipe to try - I'm going to make this tonight for the first time - I'll let you know how it goes!

It’s important to encourage a liking for fish early on. This baby food recipe is quick and easy to prepare and combining it with root vegetables is a good way to introduce fish to your baby. Oily fish like salmon, trout, tuna and sardines are especially good as they contain omega-3 essential fatty acids which are very important for visual and brain development. Tinned tuna however does not contain omega 3s only fresh tuna.

Its true that fish is good for the brain - omega-3 essential fatty acids are found in oily fish and they make up 40% of the brain. A baby’s brain grows rapidly between birth and three years and most of the growth takes place in the first year.

Ingredients

2 medium carrots, topped and tailed and sliced

4 1/2 ounces salmon fillet, skinned

1/4 orange juice

1/3 grated Cheddar cheese

1 tbsp unsalted butter

2 tbsp milk

Method:

Put the carrots into a saucepan, cover with water, bring to the boil and cook over a medium heat for about 20 minutes until tender. Alternatively, place the vegetables in a steamer and cook for 20 minutes.

Meanwhile, place the salmon in a suitable dish, pour over the orange juice and scatter over the cheese. Cover, leaving an air vent and microwave on high for about 2 minutes or until the fish flakes easily with a fork . Alternatively, cover with foil and cook in a pre-heated oven for about 20 minutes.

Flake the fish with a fork, carefully removing any bones. Drain the carrots, mix with the butter and milk and puree in a blender together with the flaked fish and its sauce. For older babies, mash the carrots together with the butter and the milk and then mix the flaked fish with the mashed carrots.

Information:

Suitable from 7 months

Suitable for freezing

MAKES 3 PORTIONS

i haven't given my son any ish yet, but it definitely seems like a good idea. My husband used to work at gnc and he learned how incredibly good omega 3s are in young ones...

you're best bet would prolly be to steam it..you prolly don't want to fry it up since you'd have to use some kind of oil....and mix some sort of sweet veggie with it so it'll taste a little better...like sweet peas..and then just toss it in a food processor and puree it...
