My baby is 7 months old and he seems so hungry all the time. He also is waking at night. I was trying to feed him formula, but he won't take it. He's never had a bottle before. Does anyone have any suggestions?

We still do both...when we started the transition, we did breast milk in a bottle and then gave an ounce of formula in a different bottle. We eventually increased the formula while decreasing the breast milk. If that does not work, try a sippy cup..it worked for my friend as her son would not take a bottle! Also, when you are nursing, try using a nipple shield so he gets used to a silicone nipple and not the real thing! Good luck. It is a hard transition but will come!!

Thanks everbody! I was already thinking about mixing the breast milk and formula but I don't have a pump. And I wasn't about to go and buy one. Anyways, today I thought of putting a little bit of apple juice in the bottle to make it a little sweeter. He's already had some apple juice, so I tried it. And he actually took it!! I'm so happy. Thank you again.

What they said, for the most part. We were using 5 oz bottles when we made the switch (I was an exclusive pumper, so he had breastmilk in a bottle from the beginning) - to get him to take formula, we had to start out with 1 oz of formula in 4 oz of breastmilk and increase the formula over a month. Now he will take either or any combination of the two.
Also, it's a good time to introduce a cup if the bottle's not taking.

I would give him a bottle of breastmilk first to get used to a bottle. Then, I would make a bottle of formula and mix breastmilk with it. Finally, start decreasing the amount of breastmilk you are adding.

Giving him a formula top-up will usually help him sleep thru the night as it is heavier in his stomach. As for getting him to take formula - maybe try him on a mixture of half breast-milk half formula in small amounts at a time so you don't end up wasting too much milk?? Might taste a bit more familiar while he's getting used to the bottle teat. Good luck with it hun, keep perservering with it...if he's really hungry surely he will take the bottle eventually. xo
