Honestly, it is much easier to teach a kid how to go to sleep without anything in his mouth. Such as a pacifier or bottle. Once they are started with this they are hard to break. Good luck!

I have heard the same thing about milk and juice pooling in their mouths. It will damage their little teeth. Also, when my son was a little younger and fell asleep while feeding, he seemed to spit up more. It's more likely that they will choke if they drink and they are flat on their backs.
Just off on a tangent a bit...I think this is supposed to be a place where we can ask eachother questions and get helpful advice. Being a first time mom, I know I don't know everything. It's kind of rude for people to judge. Sometimes as moms we do something to help a situation right at that moment and dont know how to change it once it's a habit. I, for one, would rather be helpful than judgemental.

This is definatly not a good idea.. Feed him his bottle before he goes to bed, babies choke very easily. Why would you do this in the first place?? You're just teaching him bad bad habbits that will be just that much harder to break down the road

and to the first post it's not milk that rots the teeth it's juice's ( i.e. apple )
Actually, if milk pools in the mouth it will rot teeth, too - it's all sugar.

So, it's definitely the milk he wants (i.e. he drinks it), and not just a pacifying mechanism? My little guy generally wants his soother just before he goes to sleep to soothe himself and then he just spits it out once he's asleep. He generally finds it again in the middle of the night if he needs it. Maybe... you could dilute the milk with some water, and gradually switch over to just water... then gradually switch over to just a pacifier? Ryan hated water for his first 7 months but now, in the last couple of weeks, he actually drinks it when he is eating his solids... Mummy or Daddy hold a big boy cup for him and he drinks some and dribbles the rest down his bib ;-) I've found as long as I do things gradually, no matter what it is, he responds quite well to it.

Its not good because babies assosiate milk with sleep. So when they start waking up during the night (for various reasons) they will need milk to sleep again, even when they are not hungy.
Try to wake him up a bit before putting him to bed. I know its hard, he will start crying and you will have to calm him down, but its worth in the long term.

Hi, I read somewhere, it is still not good idea, because there are going to be a pool of milk in the month if they fell asleep and it will rot their teeth.

Quoting Kelsi:
I know putting my son to bed with a bottle is not good, but what if i take his bottle out of his mouth as soon as he falls asleep?
