I think I'm going to skip using a sippy cup. I offer my daughter sips of water out of a plastic cup and she seems to do just fine with that. Is anyone else skipping the sippy cup? Is it really necissary to use one?

Oh I hear you about sippy cups being mess free..  Right now she has no desire to drink her milk from it but she loves to drink water from it.  She hates her formula but she for some reason will drink her formula from a cup.. maybe because she thinks its fun or different.  As for right now she just plays with the sippy cup and bite down on it but training her to use the sippy cup as she gets older is a must for mommy.

Unless u want juice all over your house when ur daughter starts walking around with a cup u might want to reconsider the sippy cup. :-)

I think there are a few purposes to the sippy cup:  transitioning from bottle to cup, teaching, and saving u from a big mess!  My daughter can take sips of water from a regular cup too but Im trying to teach her how to hold the cup by herself as well.  Good luck!

I am totally with you on the sippy cup, my little guy is 7 months old, he can figure out how to get into every cupboard in our house but for love of him cannot figure out that darn sippy cup.  I just give him sips of water all day long from a regular glass.  As long as he is getting water on these hot days and not becoming dehydrated, I am all right with it.

No sippy cup for us either. I did the same by offering a little (glass) cup with water and she loves it.  Yes, we hold it for her, but she drinks just fine.  She usually only gets it when she has a bib on anyway, so who cares about spills and messes.

It's working just fine. I pour her a little cup of water every morning and through out the day I offer her sips. Yes I do have to hold it for her but she put's her hands right up there and tries to hold it herself. I understand the no mess thing but I'm pretty sure when I was a kid there was no sippy cups and I made it just fine. That's probably why my mom wouldn't let us take our drink out of the kitchen lol.

It's funny you mention this.. my daughter has been drinking out of a cup since she was about 4 months old and is now 7 months.  She has always given me a hard time to drink her bottle so I have tried everything.  With the sippy cup she would just bite on it and I tried a cup and she actually drank out of it so she when she gives me a hard time to drink her bottle I turn to the cup.  I was very amazed to see her do it and still am.  I guess the sippy cup is good for less mess convenience.  I do wish she drank out of it because then I could have her drink it herself but with the cup I have to hold it for her.  How is the cup working out for you?
