I was just wondering if anyone was going through the same thing...I did really well during my pregnancy. Only gained 18 lbs and lost an additional 17 soon after giving birth to my baby boy. In the past 4 weeks, I have gained 12 lbs and I am losing a lot of hair. I take off full clumps when I run my fingers through it. Any thoughts and should I be concerned!? Any help will be greatly appreciated it!

I am having the same problem with the hair loss... I looked it up on line and an article stated something about hormones balancing back out will cause hair loss 3-4 months after giving birth.... I hope it gets balanced soon or I am gonna be bald.... I don't think it is anything to worry about tho....

Tania...I have two bald spots on either side of my forehead...thankfully my hair is layered so it covers it up. But I asked my hair dresser and she said that I have a lot of new hair growth and that it is extremely normal for your hair to fall out after pregnancy.  I also read an article that says pre-pregnancy you lose like 100 hairs a day and post-pregnancy you can lose up to 500 a day.  I don't think the hair loss is to be of concern.  I'm not sure about the weight gain....have you changed your diet at all or stopped breastfeeding?

I am going through the same thing! I would definetly request a thyroid function test from your MD. I'd also make sure you are continuing to take your prenatal vitamins.

Hope this helps - I'd love to hear when you've seen the doc what they say!

Those are both completely normal. Losing your hair shouldn't last for too long. Like Jenn said, it's just your hormones. You don't lose any hair when your pregnant so afterward it just happens a lot at once. Weight gain and loss are different for everyone. I lost all of my weight plus some in 2-3 months after my first was born. I am having a much harder time getting the weight off this time. I have been stuck with 10 extra pounds on me since my daughter was about 8 weeks old. A lot of people say is takes 9-12 months to return to your old self! You will get there.

your hormones are changing back to the way they were before you were preggo. obviously u really are concerned i would talk w/your doctor. your hormones also change more if u have stopped breastfeeding too.

Losing hair is normal. It happened much sooner with my first daughter though. Now I feel like I may be going bald. I can pull it out in handfulls, in the shower, brushing my air, running my fingers through my hair......ahhhhh. I keep a swiffer sweeper handy because I shed all over my house. Its just your hormones. Keep taking your prenatal vitamins and stay hydrated. As for gaining weight, part of it is your body just trying to regulate, and with a newborn we don't really take the time to eat healthy or regularly for that matter, kind of a grab and go when you have a free hand situation. I lost all of my pregnancy weight in the first 2 months only to recently find that my clothes have shrunk in the dryer. It takes time, I was back to "normal" for exactly 2 months before I learned I was pregnant with my second. I assure you it is all normal, its a hormomal mess, but normal. Enjoy your beautiful baby boy!

Have you seen your doctor yet? They should check your thyroid profile.
