Where to start... first I guess I want to know how much a baby should be eating drinking this age? My son will be a year on the 25th. He still eats pretty much every 3 hours. He gets fruit and cereal in the morning, then a 8 oz bottle of breastmilk 4 hours later, then veggies and a bottle 3 hours after that, another 8 oz bottle 3 hours later, and finally meat/veggies with a bottle before bed. Is this too much? Not enough? How much fluids does he need? He always seems to want some of what I'm eating even if he's been fed. I'm starting to switch him over to cows milk from breastfeeding, and I want to know how fast/slow I should do this. I'm only mixing a bit at a time in with the breastmilk to make up for what I can't make anymore with his appetite. He doesn't want to drink strait cows milk yet. Should he be getting water or juice as well or is just milk ok? Also want to know how many naps and how long they should be. I know every baby is different, so it's not exact. Right now he is getting 3 naps a day, about an hour to an hour and a half each time depending on how tired he is. He sleeps about 10 hours at night. I'm not so much worried about this, just wondering if this is a good amount of nap time. I also want to ask about resuming periods. I have been off birth control for several months now. While I was on it I wasn't supposed to get periods and I didn't. But I have yet to get one after going off the birth control, and I know I'm not pregnant. I got a bit of spotting the other day, and thought I was finally getting one, but nothing yet other than that bit of spotting. Is it normal to have no period for this long after having a baby when not being on birth control and breastfeeding? These are the major things I want to know, so I guess I will leave off here and wait for some advice. Thank you for any help you can give.

As for the sippy cup, I just got some made by Nubby with a very soft nipple like tip. My son loves it! I have switched entirely with no problems. I had sippy cups with a hard tip and he would do the same thing - take two sips and throw it or try to make a mess with it. I give my son diluted juice and water throughout the day. I cut out all daytime formula and I don't bf. I also just switched to cows milk cold turkey and it is working great. Since he only gets it at night, I think it was easier. As for food, I feed him everything that I eat. If he doesn't want it then I give him some jar veggies and fruit. He is doing really well with only 2 teeth. Good luck to you and just keep reminding yourself that every child is different. Especially their sleeping and eating habits.

I dont eat anything for breakfast either. And if the other kids are eating cereal I will just get a couple of eggs and scramble them up for her. Mine refused the sippy cup for a while but then she saw her big siblings drinking from one and she would just go over and take theirs when they would put it down. So she taught her self. Just keep introducing it and he will get the hang of it. And I would get an appointment set up and if it gets worse then go to the ER. I raither get yelled at then have something bad happen.

thanks all for the advice. I guess I forgot to mention that he gets baby food fruit and cereal for morning, mainly because I am never hungry that early in the morning. Lunch he sometimes gets what I'm eating, and if it's something he can;t chew yet with his 3 little teeth, then it's baby food veggies. Dinner is almost always what I'm eating, except again the few times it's something he can't chew well enough yet. Glad to here about the period being normal, but now another question. I have been having heart palpitations more and more frequently since I had him. I am also having occasional joint pain. Could these be from some sort of vitamin deficincy from breastfeeding still? I am worried about it, but being military you either have a choice of wait 2 weeks to be seen or go to the ER and get yelled at because it's not an emergency. Is anyone else's baby refusing sippy cups? I am working on it with my son, but he will take one or 2 drinks then throw it away and only go back to it so he can shake it to get whatever is in it all over the place. I have tried heating the cows milk, and it hasn't worked too well. I think he just needs to get used to the taste. lol.

My daughter turned one on the 1st. She has been eating whatever we eat at our meals for a while now. I am still BFing so not sure how much there. But some days she only takes one nap. And she usually doesnt sleep all nite either. So sleep wise I think he is good there. They will let you know when they are tired. My daughter only gets juice in a cup once a day. I have not gotten my period since I got pregnant with her. Its been almost 2 years now. Have you tried heating up his cows milk. With my other kids since they were so use to BM they wanted the cows milk warm too. I have never tried mixing it, but if it works then go ahead.

According to my OB-GYN breast feeding normally means no period. As for the diet my son get 4oz of fuit in the morning a 6-8 oz bottle for nap at 9am 4-6 oz of whatever veggies we had the night b4. At his 2nd nap if he takes one another 6-8 oz bottle and at dinner he generally has what we have. My guy isnt sleeping more than 5-6 hours at a time at night and seems constantly thirsty, so he has 2-3 6 oz bottles a night. He is now a whopping 38lbs and 35 inches long or so. He also gets all the water he eants and will drink 2-3 6 oz bottles or sippy cups a day

Payton turned 1 on the 12th. I never feed her baby food. She eats everything we eat at every meal. Maybe your baby eats so much cause he needs more substance to his diet. I'd start giving him big person food. My babe is still BFing but only when tired or soothing. She drinks juice from a cup with meals and when thirsty. She will go get her cup and tell me when she wants something in it. She gets 3 meals and 3 snacks a day. Even though I'm BFing I started my period a couple months ago but it isn't regular or normal. It's sporadic light heavy.

hi... my daughter will be 1 on the 18th... her typical diet looks something like this... breakfast - cereal, fruit, 5 ounces of milk

snack - yogurt

lunch- beef stroganoff (jar food), half a piece of bread, half a peach, 5 ounces milk

snack - cheese

dinner, whatever we are having, spahgetti, or chicken and veggies, with applesauce ,etc..., milk (no exact amount)

before bed - 8 ounces milk

whenever i eat i gove her atleast a little to try..

when i changed her to cows milk (last week) i just started mixing half and half, and everyday added slightly more milk until she was drrinking just the cows milk...she drinks quite a bit of water and i often share a juice box with her

as for the naps, my daughter wakes at 7am, has a nap from 12:30-2:30 and goes to bed at 8:30.. just he one nap a day is working for us, she doesnt awaken during the night... as u said all babies are different and maybe he needs a little more sleep

i have heard that as long as you breast feed you will not get a period... i breastfed for six months and it took 3 months after that to get a period again..

hope that i have been helpful... i am not sure what other moms and babies are doing for their schedules at this stage, i just know that this is what works for us...
