My insurance covered it 100%... if your insurance doesn't cover it, try the local planned parenthood... I know here it is one of the things they do free or at a reduced cost if you qualify.. and from what I have heard it isn't hard to qualify. Good luck!

I'm just wondering if your insurance covered this or not. I was going to get it but I was going to have to pay about $700. :( We didn't have that kind of money!

I got mine as soon as I could get it put in. I think it was like 7 weeks after I had my daughter. I have gained some weight back, but I think it is because I stopped following the rigid diet I was on (gestational diabetes). I love the Mirena though... I haven't had a period since the initial bleeding...

I have the Mirena too. I picked it because it's so good for breastfeeding moms (it doesn't affect milk supply) I haven't noticed any weight gain that wasn't already there because of BF and not being active enough during the cold winter months. :) I'm looking forward to weaning to help me lose some of this weight. :)

I have! And my OB swears that doesn't happen. Also, my skin has gone psycho and my boobs got bigger. His excuse for this was I was pregnant. But I'm not! I got it in February, and haven't stopped bleeding yet! I'm about to yank the thing and say "forget it"

Remember if you are breastfeeding that affects weight too....and it is different for each baby. I lost very easily with my daughter but with my son it has been very difficult. I wouldn't think that it would be the Mirena just because it is a small dose of horomones that is not systemic. And Rachelle, about a pound a week is good if you expect to keep it all off....slow and steady wins the race. Good luck to everyone on getting into the shape you want to be. Right now, I am just trying to survive on way less sleep than I would like and trying to be thankful because it could be worse!

I had Mirena put in after my 2nd daughter was born and the only side effects for me then was painful sex, But we found positions to make it work for about a year then I had it taken out so we could have another baby after baby came I had another one put in and haven't noticed anything not even painful sex! - be careful with the cooper IUD it can cause heavy bleeding during your period also lots of cramping because those parts are sensitive to the cooper it's good for 10 years though where as the Mirena is good for 5.... I just hate the pill can't remember it for nothing so I have to stick with my Mirena!

I got mine put in in October, and since then I have been having a very hard time trying to get rid of this extra weight. I asked my doctor, and she said that it does not have an affect on the weight that you gain, or lose... But I am thinking differently. I never had a problem losing weight with my daughter, and now after having my son, and having the Mirena, I am having alot of trouble! I think that I am going to have mine taken out soon...

I have been on it since February and haven't had any weight gain. Thanks for the heads-up, though. That never occured to me, so I'll be watching more closely.

Yeah.. see i started working out in January also and i gained weight, rather than losing it!! then i just stopped because it wasn't working, but now i look back at it and i think it was the mirena! I was told to go on the copper IUD by someone and i think i might try it. They say it doesn't cause any weight gain!

I got Mirena in October and I didn't have any weight gain. But I might not be the best spokesperson for that because in January I started working out and have lost about 15 lbs. Though now saying that, I wonder if the Mirena has affected the amount of weight I lose. 4 months and 15 pounds---not that much really.

I have a friend who had an IUD, not sure which one, and she said she couldn't get weight off and she had a couple of friends who gained a lot of weight on them too.
