I'm not sure where this all started. My son just got his first burn last week on the waffle iron, but this started way before that. He learned the difference between cold and hot and now things are either cold or hot, no in between. He is refusing to get into the bathtub and starts to cry. My husband has tried getting in with him and it makes no difference. We have toys that he puts in himself. Everything is fine till it is time to go in, then it's "hot" "hot", even though it is barely warm. He won't eat his food until it is almost cold b/c it is "hot". His car seat is "hot". I have to get in and get the air conditioner going until the car seat is cool, then he still will say "hot". I give him a cookie to make him sit in it sometimes.
Has anyone experienced this? What works? any ideas?

MY son is obsessed with hot, nevermind cold! We started noticing a problem when he wouldn't eat dinner. We found that teaching him to blow on the food to make it not hot was a hit he loved doing that, and also teaching him warm. We would show him hot food (showing the steam off of the food helped), cold food like ice cream and then something at room temp or normal food temperature and showing him warm was ok. He asks now if its hot and then we tell him it used to be hot but now its warm so its ok to eat, it wont hurt and if he protests we stand our ground and tell him again that its warm not hot and that it wont hurt "See mommy put her hand in the warm bath and it doesn't hurt, see mommys hand doesn't have an owie".
