I was just wondering your August babies nap schedule. My little guy usually wakes between 7 and 7:30 and I put him back down for a nap about 9:30/9:45. He often sleeps until 11:30 and sometimes later. Then he doesn't need to go back down until between 3 and 3:30, but will sleep sometimes until close to 5. I like having him in bed by 8 pm, but he ends up talking in his crib forever probably because he's not tired. I don't know if I should somehow be changing when he sleeps.

My son is up around 5:30-6am and naps around 9am for about 1 hour sometimes longer. Then if I am lucky he goes down after lunch fo up 2 1/2 hours, and he is off to bed around 7:30-8pm. And he still isnt sleeping through the night, he is up 2-3 times a night.

If he is sleeping well at night, I would say his current schedule is right for him. Some babies just talk themselves to sleep, it's a good thing that he is happy to get himself to sleep. I read an article yesterday that said until a baby is 15-18 months old that they shoud go down for a nap once they have been awake 2-3 hours. It suggested naps at 9am, 1pm, and an optional nap at 4pm depending on that day's cumulative sleep and the baby's mood. That is about what my son does...or did until her started pushing 4 teeth out at once....not sure what the schedule will be once this irons out a bit.

My Oliver naps whenever he wants to. I've never had him on a schedule, I let him make his own. Somedays he won't nap at all and others he'll take 2 short ones or one extremely long one. He wakes in the morning around 8 and goes to bed around 10!

Hi Jessica. My little girl is exactly the same. She wakes between 7am and 7.30am. Then she has a sleep for an hour at around 10am then she is back in bed at about 2.30pm but by her bed time at 8pm she is grumpy and tired. Maybe try putting him down earlier in the afternoon and waking him if he sleeps to long. Just a suggestion.

well...that kind of sounds like my son's sleep schedule. wakes up around 7 7:30 I like to sleep in so I put him back to sleep as soon after he wakes up as possible then we wake up around 9 I guess....he rarely goes back to sleep during the day...I try to put him to bed between 7pm and 10pm. if around 7 he usually wakes up 2 times for a feeding, but if later around 9 or 10 then only once and I just rock him back to sleep then it's up at 7 am again. have a nice rest of the day.

I have no advice on sleeping these days. My little man is up and down all night STILL. He usually gets up for the day though around 7:30-8:00. He will lay down for a nap shortly after lunch (12ish) and usually he'll sleep a good couple of hours. Sometimes he'll take an evening nap before dinner as well but its short. He's usually in bed bed between 8-9. Now my husband will tell ya he'll take a morning nap and afternoon nap when I'm not here. And long ones too. As I said... no advice on napping here. All my other boys had good schedules... lol

Jessica - wake him earlier from am nap perhaps after 1hour and then try to put back to bed after lunch. this may or maynot work. He may sleep longer in afternoon. I dont let my boys sleep past 4 unless we are going out for evening.

Our routine sounds about the same. He wakes up between 6 & 6:30, has a morning nap for an hour, hour and a half and he has an afternoon nap, no later than 3:30, if he is not asleep by 3:45, I have to stretch him until at least 7:00. (this is when he is at home). He normally only has 1 nap at school, by the time a fetch him from school I have to fight all the way home for him not to sleep, but I like to have him in bed by 8, sleepy or not, I like to stick to our routine.

My little one sleeps through the night. She wakes up at 6:30, takes a nap at 9:45. We let her choose the length in the morning. She then takes another nap at that starts between 1:30 to 3 depending on the day. Her afternoon nap is capped at 2 hours otherwise she wakes up at night. She goes to bed at 8.

It is soo great to hear that my son is on the same schedule as most of your babies. I was worried too.
Wakes 6:30-7:00am, 1st nap 9:30/10 sometimes 10:30, 2nd Nap 2:30/3:00, then bed by 8pm most of the time sleeps til 6:30 sometimes wakes around 3:30/4am(Why.. I have no idea)
He naps between 45 min-1hr and 20 minutes ( I wish he napped longer)

Thanks again for your post Jessica...

My daughter is up around 7-8am. She takes a nap about 9-9:30 for an hour or so. Then she has another nap around 1 or 2pm for an hour or two. She goes to bed around 9pm though she falls a sleep about 10pm. She sometime skip the morning nap. She wasn't a very good sleeper till about two month ago. Since she started to walk she sleeps a lot more.

I really enjoy on long nap ( you can get more done that way). We get up around 6 or 6:30 and then take a nap about 12:30 until 2:30 or 3. She just started to only take one nap this week and it is great!

Quoting Lauren:

We are still on 2 naps a day. Wake up 6:30. First nap around 8:30/9:00 - that usually lasts 45min to an hour. Second nap around 1:00 - usually last 45min to an hour. In bed by 7:15.

I am so glad to hear that someone else has our same sleep schedule!

My daughter has never been a good sleeper: wakes up at6:30, naps for 45 min at 9 and then another 45 min at 1. Goes to bed between 7:30 and 8 and starts the cycle all over again. AND, last night was the first night she ever slept through the night. Ugh.

my daughter wakes up at 7am, she has a nap from 1230 - 230pm and then goes to bed at 830pm..your schedule sounds a lot like my daughters when she was on the 2 naps a day but at 10 months we changed it to one longer one ( she was ready for the change).. your right your son probably sleeps enough during the day that hes not tired when his bed time comes around

My son wakes around 7-7:30 then first nap is around 9 until 11:30ish. Then he goes back down from about 2:30-3 until 4:30-6. He goes to bed for the night around 8-9pm and wakes up once around 2-4am. His afternoon nap is when he sits in his crib babbling. I just leave the room and he eventually falls asleep on his own. I just need to break him of the middle of the night feeding!!!

That sounds like my dd schedule to the T, only difference is if she sleeps in till 8 then the first nap doesn't start till noon. Those days she only has one nap.
