My one year old little girl likes to put everything in her mouth! It doesnt seem to matter what it is, she likes it. Everything from dirt and rocks, to soap!

My daughter does the exact same thing. Like right now, she has my hairband and she's trying to chew on it. The only thing I haven't seen her try to eat is sand. She has a sandbox and she plays it in every now and then and I've never seen her try to put it in her mouth.

Oh, yes.. I know its normal. Its just surprising to me because this is my 3rd child, and the first 2 never put ANYTHING in their mouths. My one yr. old doesnt even seem to squint to the taste of soap... she gets upset when I take it away from her.. and always wants more. Now, I think that is whats odd.

It's totally normal for kids in this stage of development (sensorimotor stage). That's their way of exploring the world around them. This stage starts at infancy untill about the age of 2.
My Daughter puts everything in her mouth also, but I just keep telling myself that's it's a phase and that she'll grow out of it. How much harm could a small handfull of sand do? haha

my son does the same thing. he'll find a little piece of crumb on the floor and manage to pick it up- and there it goes in his mouth. I have to vaccuum all the time and just watch him for chewing motions. I think it's them investigating their world through their mouths. I think it's common.
