I am interested in started to teach my daughter some basic sign language. Wondering if anone else out there is doing the same? I have been researching online for info (since I don't know sign language myself) to find best resources to help me on my adventure. Wondering if anyone can recommend book/website that is working for you. Thanks! :)

please be aware that some babies/children who r taught sign language (where it is not due to a communication need) are late with speech. i have worked in nurseries for many yrs and nearly every child that i have looked after that could do baby sign would rather sign than speak and have many probs trying to encourage those children to speak.

Here's a great website with little videos for each sign. We've been doing little signs off and on- my son hasn't signed back, but at 7 months he definitely recognizes some signs like for milk and "change" as in diaper change.

I rented a movie from the library. and a couple of books. just learn the basics and when you have those pick up some more.

Baby Singing 123 by Nancy Cadjan. I started signing just before my daughter hit 4mons.
I started with a few basic signs just like the book says and at 5-6 months my daughter signed for MILK. I was over the moon with joy when she did, it was something that only I was doing with her and she learned it from me (sorry proud mom moment for me). I think this book is great, it goes by age stages and it's very simplistic. It also tells you all the benefits of signing (it goes a little long in tooting the baby signs horn so you can probably skim some of the opening). Hope this helps and good luck. I'm noticing benefits already (my daughter is 7mon), she signs for milk (only occasionally) and she gets giddy when I tell her all done, bath and even time to eat:)

Hi Sarah,

I'm pseudo teaching my daughter some signs. I had high hopes to start a little earlier, but I think now is till an okay time to introduce signs. (she's 6.5 months now). I was given the book:

The Baby Signing Book - by Sara Bingham. It's very simplistic but offers a lot of information and is easy to learn and read.

As well, I found the Baby Einstein Signing video to be pretty helpful. Even though it's short and sweet, it's incredibly easy and helps encourage signing.

We're just starting with baby steps, but so far so good. Hope this helps, let me know how you're progressing or if you hear of any other good books or tactics. :)  Good luck!
