Water or Juice?

First off don' t listen to moms who feel their way is the only right way, you know your baby best. I had a similar dilema with my daughter she was having trouble adjusting to the spoon. WHat I did which seemed to work for me was I would sit her in her chair and eat my food in front of her. And right after i would try to give her some food off the spoon. At first it was a collasal mess. food everywhere but after about a week she was doing great. Good Luck and remember to keep a wet washcloth on hand!

my baby is turning 6m next week and I'm not giving her anything yet, cause she's preemie....but when she turns up to be ready I'll try with juices....

I have started giving my 6.5 month old daughter diluted juice once a day/about twice a week. I do give her about 2 oz. of water throughout each day, in a learner sippy cup. Her pedi said 6 months is when she suggests introducing the cup, and to use diluted juice or water in it.

We started giving our son a few oz of water a day when he was having constipation problems from rice and oatmeal cereal. We started out using a bottle and are now trying a sippy cup. We haven't tried juice yet just because the water seemed to help him but we plan on giving him some soon.

You have to do what you feel is best and only you can know what your child is able to handle.  My son is only 15lbs 14 oz. and was born at 7lbs 5 oz.  I only gave him cereal in bottle at night since I was breast feeding and needed to fill him up more.  He was getting up every hour to nurse.  He now eats 3 times a day spoon fed and sometimes gets cereal in bottle at night to fill him up more so he can sleep longer spans.  My son barely sleeps.  He takes maybe one or two 1/2 hour nap during the day and gets up 2 to 3 times a night and sometimes gets up every hour.  I notice the difference on the night when he get cereal in his bottle compared to the nights he doesn't.   My cousin is a nurse and she said to me you should watch with giving him cereal in his bottle when he was 3 weeks old.  I said he is fine and my doctor was ok with it when he was that young. 

Some baby's it does lead to being over weight.  I know someone who's nephew is 4 months and weighs over 20lbs. because they were giving him cereal in the bottle all day long.  They now only feed him 6 oz bottles with out cereal.  He's a big boy and looks like he is older than my 6 month old.

my baby just turned 6 months and he has water in a sippy cup. But half juice and water is good... too much sweets can be bad for the teeth

Im giving my son Water i havent tried juice yet as i would preferably like water to be his first drink preference thats just me though and everybody is different and whatever you feel is right for your baby is the right decision - every mum and every bub is diff

I give my son water or watered down gerber apple juice when he is eating.  Since he has 2 teeth th dr said it was fine.  we use nuby soft spout sippy cups with handles which work really well.

Hello, my daughter will be 6 months in a week. I am giving my daughter apple juice and sometimes apple-prune juice. She was having problems going potty so our doctor told us to try apple juice and if that didnt work to work our way to prune juice. I give her 2-3 ounces each day to help her. She doesn't drink from a sippy cup yet, and I am still looking for a good one, not sure when to introduce it since she is my first child. I was told not to give babies water, which I find strange but I really dont know. I am sure his doctor will let you know if he is ready.

I gave my baby juice and baby food at three months cause he ate so much the doctor told me to do it.

At my 6 month check-up my doctor said she could have 2-4 ounces of diluted juice a day (half juice and half water).  We have only tried apple - which she loves.  Right now we are doing it in a bottle, but my doctor said it was time to introduce a sippy cup.

At 5 months I started giving her 1 ounce of diluted juice to help with constipation from rice cereal.  Also, at the advice of my doctor.  I would not give her anything otherwise.

My son just turned 6 months old.  I give him juice.  I just water it down.  I give 2 oz of juice with 2 oz of water in a bottle.  Depending on his mood sometimes he will drink it and sometimes he won't.  I have given him pear juice which he seems to like.  He didn't really like white grape juice.  I have given him prune juice when he was constipated as per my doctor which he liked also.  Ihave yet to try apply juice.   We are going to try that next week.  If you plan on trying it.  I would use the gerber brand juice, and not regular brands of juice as your baby is still little for that.  My doctor did not tell me I can give it to him.  I just went a head with it.  I figured if my doctor gave me the okay to give him prune juice and camomile tea at 2 months it would be fine to try the juices now.  I would just see how you feel about it.  Some moms follow everything the doctor says word for word.  I am not one of those mother's.  Also our doctor is very open and not strict on letting the baby try things anyway.  Some of my friends waited on spoon feeding thier baby until they were 6 months b/c te doctor told them to.  My doctor had me spoon feeding him by the time he was 3 1/2 months old and cereal in his bottle when he was 3 weeks.
