My daughter basically slept through the night from 2 weeks old. She has always been a great sleeper when she was a newborn I used to wake her after 12 hours of sleep because I was afraid she was not eating enough! She now goes to bed around 7:30-8 and sleeps until 8-9a ... Everyone says I am very lucky and spoiled with her!

my son didn't start sleeping through the night until he was about 10 months and then it was from 8pm until 5-6am when he would wake to nurse and then go back to sleep for a couple more hours...our daughter still isn't sleeping through the night and she's 11 months, so i guess it just depends on the baby...some are really lucky and have a baby that sleeps through the night from just a few weeks old while some just take longer...good luck!

My son started to sleep through the night at about 6 weeks old, like a few others he only woke once in the middle of the night for feedings and it was off to sleep until 6 - 7 am, wow we are so blessed for such a happy, wonderful baby. Think we are gonna shoot for number 2!

My Twins are 1 in a couple of weeks and they slept through from when they were 1 month until 6 months and then I was up to them every 1 1/2 hours. I did this for 2 months until I could no longer function and then started control crying. I took them to the dr to get checked out first to make sure there was nothing wrong and then control crying here I come. There is alot of negativity about control crying out there but I got to the stage where I felt I couldn't give them my all every day because I could bearly function on 2 hours sleep a night. Within 3 days, they were going to bed at 7pm without a peep and waking up at 5am. It certainly didn't do them any harm and I feel a whole lot better as well. They had just gotten in the habit of knowing if they cried, I would come running and once they learnt that I wasn't going to pick them up anymore, they just started going back to sleep without me.

There is loads of different things that can be tried but it all depends on the children. Mine for the last hour and a half before it is time for the bedtime routine get to run and play as mad as they can. They chase each other round the halls and thru the rooms as fast as they can sometimes. I let them do this and sometimes join in as its a great way of wearing them out for the night. then they would have something to eat about half 7 (we dont get in till evening from work so they dont have their tea until around that time) then every 2nd night it is bath, pyjamas, cuddles and bed. Every other night it is just pyjamas, cuddles and bed. My oldest goes to bed with a DVD on but falls asleep and it is set on a timer so switches off after a while and my youngest brings her bottle to bed and her singing barney. Both sleep with the light off so they have nothing to distract them but I leave the doors slightly ajar to keep some light in their rooms. If my little one does act up when I have left the room and starts crying, I will leave her for a few minutes and if she still has not settled I will go back up, place her lying down again, give her the dummy and turn her teddy on again. I dont stay in her room for ages otherwise she would not settle. This seems to work for mine but as I said not all children are the same. Some people find having the child in the same room encourages the child to waken during the night to try and get a sneaky ticket into mammys bed but each one is different. The best thing to do is try different routines. but keep at it for a while to see if it would work and hope fully you will find one that helps your little man (and you ) get a full night sleep.

Each child is different. My nephew and niece are completely chalk and cheese. She is only 5 mthsold and sleeps all night and He is just over 2 and is up and down all night and has been like that sinc he was born really. No matter what you try, it dosent seem to work. The parents think they have some how failed with him but the havent. A child will sleep when they wish to, not when they are made to. I know routines and baths and stories etc can help but if all else fails its no ones fault. Its just nature. I know its easy for me to say as my two sleep but If you look at it this way.. If you were a non smoker and someone was telling you to have a cigarette, would you be pushed, would you be bribed???? Kids are smarter than we give them credit for, they see that getting up at night gets them as much attention as geting up during the day...

I have been blessed from the beginning with both of mine. From they were roughly about 10 wks they were sleeping from about 10 - 7. Now they are 3 and 1 and both go to bed at half 8 and get up at 8 in the morning. When I am working I have to pull the older on out of bed to get her dressed as I need to leave my house at 7.45 to drop them at the minder before going to work. The younger one is still asleep when I have to pick her up out of bed. I'm such a horrible mummy.... : (

considering that 5-6 hour stretches is sleeping through the night my son does sleep through the night he wakes 1-2 times to nurse which I'm fine with. it's when he wakes at 2am and wants to stay up and party lol.

He started sleeping through the night at 5 weeks but it's not consistant.

My daughter will be 1 on the 20th of August. She has NEVER slept through the night. I can count on 1 hand times where she has slept for more then 4 hours straight. We have a very set routine too. Bath, storey, nurse then bed. She's more often then not awake when I put her in her crib. She wakes 2-3 hours later hysterical. I nurse her or my husband changes her diaper if I'm not home then it repeats 2-3 hours later. I'm a walking zombie. I love my little girl though so it's worth it. Just wish she'd "get it".

Sleeping through the night?? Whats that? My son is up at least 2 times a night, and that is the minimum and has been since he was born. The only time he sleeps really well and more than 3-4 hours at a time is when he is sick. The Dr says that I need to let him scream it out. But he sleeps in my room so thats not possible,,,, any ideas??

My son slept through the night at 1 month. He only woke up every 4 hours before that. And there isn't an average. My daughter, 8, slept throught at 2 months, and my son, 6, didn't until he was over 2 years old!

My son started sleeping through the night as soon as he came home from the hospital!! I was a very lucky girl : ) Most of the time my 3 1/2 still wakes up at night or random times.

I don't think my youngest (11 months) will sleep through the night for quite awhilee yet since his brother was about 2 1/2 years old when he started ;-). Both of my children co-sleep(slept) and nurse when they need it which is 1-3 times per "night". Doesn't bother me a bit and I wouldn't have it any other way. (Just in case you were feeling sorry for me ;-))

My daughter started sleeping through the night 6 weeks and never had a problem, my son however is almost 11 months and has only slept through the night 5 times. He wakes up eat a full bottle and goes right back to sleep. I think he has gotten used to that, do I just not give him a bottle and see what happens or wait until slleeps through on his own?

My 11 month old daughter Jasmine is still not sleeping through. I am praying for the day that she does.

My son started to sleep through the night at 12 weeks,he is 11 months old now and he goes to bed every night at 8:00/8:15 and wakes at 9:30/10 every morning and has been always doing that. We were very blessed with that. But all babies do things differntly but I know how stressful a restless nites sleeps is. Perhaps he will soon start. Good luck!

Hi Nikki, my daughter is almost 11 months, and finally started sleeping at around 10 months from about 830-530 or 630 in the morning. She went through spurts up until now. Im hoping this isnt a fluke as well. Every baby is different as they say, I know how rough it can be, some nites we got up a few times at least and she was already 9 months!

My child is 10 1/2 months old and on a good night will only wake every three hours. Our night routine is a bath, bottle, rock in chair and then when asleep I place him in crib for sleep. We have tried the cereal before bed, not picking him up at night, not changing his diaper, not feeding formula just water in middle of night . . . nothing has worked. The only thing I can think of was that he was a preemie and so I had to feed him every two hours for the first month of his life to keep him healthy. I think he is just in a routine now! Anyone else in the same boat or having any other things to try?!

My son was about 12 weeks. All babies are different. The best advice I got was to not pick them up when they cried (unless it got really bad, of course). I would just go in and rub his back and he would fall right back to sleep. Then before I knew it he didnt need me at all anymore. I had to do something I was not one of the mom who could let him cry without going to him. I dont think there is anything wrong with it, I just couldnt do it.

my daughter was 8 1/2 mths old when she satrted sleeping through the night. i lived in a much smaller apt. at the time so i think that had a lot to do with it. after i moved and she had her own room she took to it with no problem at all.

Im curious to see what your night time routine is like?

Our bedtime routine includes getting dressed for bed/fresh diaper, breastfeed & story, and put him down in his crib.  Wakes up to nurse 1-2 times a night still, eventhough one feed is at 5am so some might consider that morning.

My daughter was abut 11 weeks old when she started sleeping through the night. She only woke up once a night to eat from the day we came home from the hospital. We would feed her around 11pm and she would sleep til between 4 and 5am and then go back to sleep until 8 or 9. I feel very lucky to have had 2 great sleepers because my son was the exact same way only started sleeping through at 9 weeks.
