2 week old sleeping habits

What are your newborns sleep habits like? I just want to check in with other moms to see if my little guy is fairly normal.
My guy sleeps anywhere from 45 min - 2 hours at a time, eats every 2.5 - 3 hours, and at night will go right back to sleep after eating.
During the day, it takes more effort to get him down, so I'm using the Happiest Baby on the Block 5 S techniques. Sometimes it takes 15 minutes, other times it can take up to 45 to get him to sleep. Definitely a bit frustrating at times, especially when my 2.5 year old is simultaneously trying to get my attention while the baby is crying out of exhaustion.

Anyone else have trouble getting their newborn down for naps? Any suggestions?

I am very luck my 16 day old baby sleeps for 4 hours at a time at night. She was awake for 4 hours last night before bed, she was overtired and fussy. She went to sleep at 1:30 and slept until 7:15 when I woke up and realized she had gone too long between feedings. We "power feed" before bedtime, we feed her every hour to hour and a half before bed so her tummy is full and she sleeps for close to 4 hours. She has done this since she was 1 week old. Good luck, she will get on a schedule.

my daughter will be four weeks tomorrow. at two weeks we were starting to worry she slept too much... She was only awake 2-3 hours a day, besides eating and she always falls alseep doing that. She still sleeps alot! doesn't really have a 2 hour eating schedule like my first two. sometimes she waits 2 hours sometimes 4.

all these posts just proves all babies are different. Thanks for posting!!!

I have almost 2 week old twins with a 3 yr old really don't worry you guy is doing fine its hard to establish a strong routine at this age its too difficult. My twins eat loads during the day and do very little sleeping but have given me two full nights with no feeds in them. So depending on what method your using to feed your child each increase the amount of formula or keep them feeding from you this will increase the sleeps inbetween.

Mine 2 week old little girl sleeps for about an hour to 2 hours during the day but she has her periods night time where she doesn't want to sleep @ all then gets up every 30 minutes to an hour again.

Mine is 3 weeks and still sleeps for 20 mins at a time and if I get lucky 3 hours at a time. I play rockabye baby lullabies for her and they're definitely less annoying than ttls...usually if I hum them to her while she's falling asleep in works. Good luck! :)

Mine sleeps between 30 min - 3 hours, depending on the time of day, but then she's only 1 week old. Yours is a little older. One thing I have found that can help sometimes is to play a nursery rhymes CD on my computer in a loop. It drives me and the husband a bit batty to hear Twinkle Twinkle Little Star 10 times a day, but keeps her naps longer.

Just go with the flow, my 2 week old girl is quite irregular with sleping but it will sort itself out within a couple of weeks. Throw the books out, newborns don't sleep for four hours at a time, i wish :)
