6 months old and refuses a bottle

My daughter is 6 months old and is breastfed. I have tried to give her a bottle so that I can leave the house for more then an hour and not worry about her. She refuses the bottle, she only chews and plays with the bottle and nipple. I have tried all kinds of different bottle and nipples with different things inside. I have tried water, breastmilk and formula (three different formulas). I have tried giving her the bottle and so has my husband with me not around. If she does manage to get something in her mouth she just splits it out. Does anyone have any suggestions or tips to get her to take a bottle.
I don`t believe in waiting for her to be hungry enough and upset enough to simply take the bottle, there has to be another way

My daughter can drink from a Doidy Cup (see http://www.bubshack.com.au/) and also drinks quite well from a regular glass when held by an adult. She never wanted a bottle either.

Toddler sippy cups will leak but look for the ones with the soft, flexible spouts - Gerber and Munchkin have the better ones I've found. Breast to cup is a great option since it won't cause the nipple confusion.

Instead of giving her a bottle when you go out give her baby food and try breastmilk in a cup.

I didn't think babies could just skip the bottle and go to sippy cup. I currently give her an empty sippy cup to play with and she does bring it to her mouth. She copies what I do with my travel mug. Thanks for all the advice. I thought the sippy cups would leak all over the place so I was hesitante

Go for a trainer cup. If she's able to pick up toys and pass them back and forth in her hands she'll be able to use a cup. I love the Munchkin ones with the flexible spout - NO LEAKS - and my boy will shake his pretty vigorously! I did this with my first child and she did really well from breast to cup.

Hi Crystal, that's the same dilemma I'm faced with. I've been so frustrated and taken advice from just about everyone! My mom advised me to try a cup so I've decided to skip the bottle and go straight to the cup... so far Joanna is responding to the (Gerber) cup... she's biting on it, not yet sucking on it but at least she will hold it herself and direct it to her mouth :-)

She will only suck on a soother if you hold it in her mouth. The minute you let the soother go, she spits it out. I pump breastmilk and have tried it in a bottle... she will also spit that out once it is in her mouth. I am now trying the Nuk bottles by gerber. She seems to have responded to there nipples the most. They are odd shapped and I think it matches my breast the most. I will pick up a born free and give it a whirl as well. Thanks

Does she take a soother? If not maybe start with that first. My son was breast fed and never wanted a soother, but when I started to wean him off the breast, he started to suck on it more because he had the breast less. Have you tried pumping your breast milk for her?

Have you tried a Born Free bottle? For some reason my daughter refused every bottle except the Born Free brand.
