First Birthdays are really for the parents. Your baby will not remember it and will have fun as long as there is no pressure or expectations. Themes with many guests are going to be overwhelming for a one year old. Keep it simple and relaxed for both the parents and child.

We are actually having a party for us as the parents instead of a big birthday for the baby. He's too young to understand what's going on or appreciate it anyway. So our theme is "We survived the first year of parenthood!" We're getting our baby sitter to come to the party so after the baby eats his cake he can go play at the park with the sitter while my husband and I get some adult-only time to enjoy a drink with our friends. Next year we'll have a bigger party with whatever "theme" my son seems to like most (whatever cartoon character or toy he's into at that time).

We've decided to rent a bounce house, and do her favorite sesame street person for the theme, think of things he likes and likes to do. example: i came up with the bouncehouse, because she likes jumping around and climbing on to things. I'm getting my party theme from: www.partycity.com

How old is your son? If he is a toddler, you can have a jungle safari or a barnyard bash party. For kids above 4 years, you can plan a camo party or a curious George party. For tweens, soccer party, Spiderman party, etc. would be great. You can check out MyBirthdaySupplies and get more ideas on boys birthday themes.

Hi, I'm not a party expert...But just do what he likes. My daughter will be one on the 16th and we took her to the beach for the first time in July. She loved it. So we are going to have a beach party for her birthday. Concentrate on what he would like and have fun with it, cause it is his big day....

Hi Charmaine, we too have been deliberating over what to do for our sons first birthday. We feel that he wont know too much going on so we have decided to go out for dinner with family and friends (haaa no catering required by mum) I have just bought some party hats with the number one and he will just have his birthday cake as it may all be too overwhelming for him. If I were to go with a theme, I definately would go Pooh & friends as his favourite snuggle toy is Tigger. Good luck!
We are having a Barnyard Bash my son will be two and my daughter will be one. So doing one big party. Hired a petting zoo to come and having a hayride and just going to let the kids have fun also my kids grandparents built them a swingset for their birthday and all the kids will play on that!!

We are going to the water park. (It's more of a splash park) I have invited a hand full of moms from our Moms Group. I have taken my daughter there a few times and she loves running threw the water. I don't want her to get overwhelmed so I decided to do something in her element. I am sure she will love it. I hope everyone has a happy first birthday experience

We are doing a Super Mario Bros. theme. I made a Mario costume for my son to wear and giving Luigi hats and foam Princess Peach crowns as party favors. We are also having a photo booth, so I am doing a backdrop that would resemble the game. Just serving cupcakes (decorated to look like 1 up mushrooms) and ice cream. Hope it helps!

Check your local dollar trees or even a party supply store for the cheap section if money is tight. They have really cute ones from what I've seen! Make the cake yourself or get a local bakery to do it up for ya. Get or make your own pinata and do the pull string kind to make it easier for small kids! Have coloring books/pages and crayons for them color with, supervised of course! Tons of balloons would be cute for them to throw an play around with!
Hope I was somewhat helpful!
We've totally went all out for Taegyns 1st! It is August 24th, but her party is the 22nd. I know alot of moms say that it's not a big deal and stuff but to me it is! & We enjoy throwing big partys anyway & this makes it all the more special!

We are doing a simple BBQ at the house with my siblings and close friends. We bought a lil kiddie pool and have a slip and slide and will do just that in the back yard. Like most have said, it's their 1st birthday, they will not remember so go cute/ but inexpensive.

For my son's first birthday we're doing a big pirate party! He had crossed eyes and has had to wear a patch so he's our pirate! We're doing a fairly large party because he was early and on NICU for awhile so its a big deal to us. But for my older some we just did a sports themed BBQ. He was totally into balls, always carrying one around and playing catch so that fit for him. Just find something he likes and run with it. Its a day all about him so incorpate

We are just having a small BBQ with family at a park not far from our house that she loves to play at. As far as theme, we are doing elmo- but nothing over the top. I got her a little elmo outfit and some plates/cups that are sesame street. We are trying to keep it simple, and just do more of a family get together.

We are doing a Wet n Wild theme party for our daughters first birthday. We just got back from Florida the other day and she absolutely LOVED the pool and anything that soaked her..lol. So it just seemed fitting. Try to think of something that your son is really interested in and maybe a theme will come out of that. Perhaps a show or a favourite toy might generate some ideas! good luck!
