My son was really gassy and always started crying about 1/2 hr. after he got done eating. I switched him to soy formula and it has done wonders.

for my baby putting hot towel/receiving blanket (I ironed it before) on her tummy (NOT on naked skin!) helped a lot! had to change towel about three times and then she would fall asleep.

I found this article on the internet and have been doing it to my son... it has helped me to no end!!! here it is:
One morning, when the first of my high-need babies was a few days old, I got a cryptic call from a friend. She said "Turn on Donahue!" and hung up. Intrigued, I complied and tuned my television to the talk show. There I saw a demonstration of infant colic massage. It has literally saved my sanity with two of our children-who had colic-when elimination diets gave us no respite.

I found the colic massage did not work during the actual crying episodes, as the baby's abdomen was too rigid to be massaged. So I used the massage every time we changed a diaper. We did this for many months and if I skipped the massage during the day, I paid for it at night. The babies and I enjoyed the time spent massaging. It didn't take long for my husband and the older siblings to learn the massage. They, too, liked the skin-to-skin contact with the baby-along with the chuckles and chortles.

Here's a description of infant massage: The colic massage I was taught consists of three parts. Before you begin, drizzle some oil on your hands and rub them together enough so your hands glide on your baby's skin but don't leave his skin looking shiny. Some people prefer to use special massage oil, however any oil will do, even vegetable oil from the kitchen. Undress baby, but leave the diaper on loosely. Sometimes babies pass more than gas! Place the baby on his back on a washable blanket, in case the oil stains it. Always keep a hand on the baby!

Part One is called the paddlewheel. Place your palm under the baby's chin, with your fingers pointing toward his shoulder. (It doesn't matter which hand you begin with since you will use both.) Draw your hand down his chest, and into the diaper area. Your stroke should be smooth and firm enough that you feel the "dip" when your hand leaves his ribcage. As your hand is around the belly button, place the opposite hand under the chin and stroke downward, so your hands are making circles over the baby, with one hand always stroking. Do this until your hands/arms begin to tire.

Part Two: Baby is still flat on his back. Place the baby's heel up next to his bottom by bending his knee sharply. Move the leg, still sharply bent, until the top of the thigh rests against the tummy. Get both legs in this position. The baby may be a tad confused at first, but later he will actually assist you-babies love this so! Grab the baby's ankles and gently shake his legs in an up-and-down motion, unbending the knees gradually, until his heels rest on the blanket and his legs are straight. Repeat many times. You may also help the baby "ride a bicycle" by holding his feet and pumping his legs. This is not part of the "official" massage, but my babies loved doing it.

Part Three: Using as much of your fingers/palm as possible, circle the belly button in a clockwise motion. This gets any remaining gas moving in the proper direction for the baby to easily pass it. Another way to do this is to rub clockwise "parentheses" around the belly button, i.e., if the belly button is the centre of a clock, one hand moves from ten to one o'clock and the other from four to seven.

Hope that that helps... also I use infacol a medicine to help with burping. Also keep bub out of the wind (outside, under fans etc). All the best :o)

My mom passes one of her secrets on to me and i swear by it. Take a small piece of peppermint candy cane about 1/4 to 1/2 inch, put it in about 2-3 oz. of warm water. Let it dissolve and then let your little bub drink it. It is the cheapest easiest solution. Hope all goes well!

My baby had it BAD too, so I feel for you:( She also had acid reflux, though, so it's hard for me to tell which things were"colic" and which were "reflux"... We switched to Similac Isomil initially, which worked well, but the soy ended up constipating her....so then we switched again to Enfamil Gentlease which she still drinks. She would also go thru stages where she wanted to be held/carried all the time, and then the next week all she wanted was to be left alone (wouldn't even let me rock her to sleep- would scream until I put her down in the cradle, then she just went to sleep!) Luckily, she grew out of it by about 4 months, much more happy now! So hang in there, it WILL get better!

IF you are breastfeeding drop all dairy and/or soy. I've been off it and it has made a world of difference. Good luck!

My son had colic for over three months until I did an elimination diet. I found that my breastfed son is allergic to milk protein and soy protein. This change has really helped.

prepare either peppermint or chamomile tea and allow it to cool to room temperature. put 1 teaspoon in his/her bottle. both peppermint and chamomile are anti-spasmatic herbs that relax the stomach muscles.

I feel for you! The word colic is a touchy word with me, I subscribe to the theory that colic is just a word that doctors use when they have no idea what to do with a baby that can't be settled. 9 times out of 10 it's due to an underdeveloped gut that is causing the baby discomfort. Both my boys have had gut pains, one due to MRSA medications after surgery and the other due to Silent GERD. I had SO many people telling me that 'oh, poor thing has colic...dont worry they'll grow out of it' *BLAH* Try the swaddleing, white noise suggestions below, then also try probiotics. In 2006 there was a study done in Italy with effects of Probiotics and infants with colic. It made a big difference! It's not that exspensive and you only need them once a day for like a month. If you want any more info please let me know and I'll pass it on. Good luck!

it's kind of pricey but worth EVERY penny! We purchased the Nap Nanny mattress. It is shaped like the car seat and has a seat belt and sides but it is a mattress. I read many testimonials that it saved some parents much grief and it has helped us with acid reflux. Teagan slept throught the night the first night we bought it and we have been happy baby since. It's not a full time fix but it will help with the sleep which is a large part of a babies life right now.

Talk to your pedeterician my daughters colic was due to cows milk formula, she has an allergic reaction to cow's milk protein,my daughter also had a bad allergic reaction to soy too, maybe try changing the formula. My daughter got so bad we are on a hypoallergenic formula and the colic is completely gone. Enfamil and similac makes them, we use the enfamil brand and it works wonders, the can says "for babies with colic due due to cows milk protein allergy" and they say it will reduce colic within 48 hrs and by god we saw a whole different baby. I hope this will help your family as much as it has helped our family

Hi. My little one suffered very very badly with colic. I'm in the UK but used something called Colief. Its lactase which helps your baby digest their food better. You just add drops to the bottle. I had over a month of miserable days with him but from the first bottle I tried Colief, he was like a different baby!!

using a sling or baby carrier works wonders for mine! Also a swing, mylicon at feedings especially when she gorges. Do you know why she has colic? sometimes getting to root of problem is whats best, with mine it was milk intolerence/allergy and corn allergy, we had to switch to the alimentum ready to feed, now she's much happier! But always ask pediatrician before making a switch.

my little girl had colic she was soo gassy. I bought some stuff online (which i was taking a huge risk), called "colic calm". It worked wonders, I tried mylicon that was in the stores, but i found out that it had baking soda in it. So when i crossed coliccalm.com i read about it and it has all natural products like peppermint, which helps the upset stomachs, and chammomile, which will help your little one fall asleep. I would recommend it for anyone that has a colic baby.

also you could try infacol, before feeds, that is what i did and my little one seems much better, is your little one just crying in the evening? or after feeds? we found that a good burping half way through feeds helped, hope this helps a little, if it gets really bad, my partner used to take our boy out for a quick walk round the block in his arms, and he always came back calm and relaxed.

swaddle blankets and white noise machine, it reminds them from being in the womb, this helped my son, and his cousin. A midwife told us about this, it might take a couple days for him to adjust but, it will help!
