My son is 10 1/2 months (his bday is Aug 3rd) and he just started standing on his own! I cant get him to take any steps with out holding his hands and walking with him. He'll also hold onto furniture and walk. Has anyone elses baby this age started standing or walking? If they are walking how did you get them to take that first step and how long did it take for them to be comfortable walking?

my son took his first steps a week before he turned 10 months. It started with him letting go of the couch and after a few steps, falling. After two weeks he will now stand up and take 6-8 steps. Sometimes when they have older siblings they tend to do things earlier.

My son stood on his own at 8 months and is up to 10 steps without holding anything before he falls. He has always been that kid that just decides he wants to do something and does. In the case of walking that is a great trait other times not so much lol

Taylor just turned 10 months on the 22 of June and she has been walking for about two to three weeks now with no help at all. I think that she is way to young for the walking. I am not ready for her to grow up so fast.

My daughter Chloe started walking at 81/2 months..she is 10 months and running around looking like a walking doll. Every baby is different and you just have to stimulate and motivate them. Now keep in mind that 81/2 months even 10 months is early.

My daughter started walking at 9.5 months and hasnt stopped since! She is very active and is getting faster by the day. It took only a couple of weeks from standing to walking. I dont know what the motivation was exactly - just letting her do her own things helps.

My granddaughter Savannah is pulling up on everything and will take a step ot two from the sofa to the chair but no real walking as of yet, and being a mom of two grown children I can tell all you moms, you need to be happy they are not walking quite yet, as it will happen soon enough cause once they start they never stop. SO enjoy them just pulling up and crawling around cause the "real adventures" come when they can walk into the bathroom while you are going instead of just sticking their little fingers under the door!! Enjoy them while they are small, it goes quick enough!

Hi, I have 10 month old and he will not walk. He will stand ..by holding furniture, but refuses to walk. Everyone says he needs to be around other children...and that will motivate him to walk.

They are all different, some are fearless and some just wont let go. My daughter didnt walk until she was 14 months but my son is 10 months and running everywhere! I would prop them up against the couch and tempt them to walk to me a little at a time, or for a toy. But no mater what you do they will walk when they are ready.

Hi my daughter is the same age, born on Aug 05, she did that for nearly a month, I used to get her to walk with only one hand held, then she'd let go and take a step or two before she sat back down again. She was standing, holding on to furniture at 4 months, didn't start to crawl until at least 6 months, hated it. Now she is climbing everything.

My daughter will be 1 Aug. 11 and she's been cruising around the furniture since she was about 8 months old. Within the last month she has started letting go of the furniture to stand unassisted for anywhere from a few seconds to a minute or so before falling. My older daughter achieved all these milestones much later, so I am amazed at watching Caitlin try to keep up with her big sis!

Hi! I also have a 10 month old. Her bday is Aug.4. Anyways....she is also starting to stand on her own and has taken a few steps here and there. She seems more determined then my other three were. My oldest now 10 yrs took her first 4 steps by 10 months but then stopped and didn't try again until she was one. Don't rush before you know it he'll be walking and then you'll have a hard tome getting him to stay put and stay in the stroller! Oh the fun we are in store for! :) Does your son sleep through the night? My first two did GREAT but my last two not so much. Madisyn, my 10 month old is still waking up 1 or 2 times a night not to eat or cause she wet etc... its just cause. :(

My daughter walked at 9 months. She is now 10 months and is walking great, even trying to run! I think she's trying to keep up with her older brother and all the kids I have here for daycare.

My son born Aug 4, started walking unassisted 3 days after he turned 10 months. He had been cruising in his play yard and on the furniture...Out of no where, my husband and I watched him walk across the living room......Now he is easily doing 30 steps at a time.....But all babies are different, from what I've heard my son is an early walker, but so was I when I was a baby :)

My son was also born on Aug 3rd. Hes standing while holding onto furniture & stuff. He pulls himself up on everything he can get his hands on. He just started walking in his walker but that was my fault. Didnt realize it went down further. Guess babies just have their own schedule of when they will walk. No worries though. He'll get there eventually =)

My son just made 10 months and he is pulling himself up easy and falling back down. He has stood on his own just a couple of times. He hasn't started walking yet or holding on to furniture and walking yet. He wants to and he grunts and strains like he is trying but his little muscles aren't strong enough yet

My daughter started walking on her own at 10 months (she has the same birthday as your son)! We got her to try on her own by standing just out of reach so she only had to step once or twice to get to us. At first she would fall as she tried to step but quickly figured it out and walks all the time now! Just remember that 10 months is still early for walking!

My twins are 10 months now and have been pulling up since about 8 1/2 months standing on their own since 9 months and cruising the furniture for a couple of weeks now. My 2 older kids were walking by 10 1/2 months and my God daughter started walking at 9 months. All my nieces and nephews were over a year when made their first steps unasisted by furniture. I seem to remember that a favorite or new toy or a person they wanted being just out of reach was a really good motivator for getting them to take a few steps.

yes my son Leo is actually 10 months old and 1/2 months too and he has just started walking on his own infact he walked yesterday along the corridor for like 10 steps and we were all so excited...we were walking with him like holding his hands then you slowly release him and he strides alone..he will be comfortable if you crouch and call him to you so he will not be afraid..make it a game or something..my son was born on August 5th and he weighs like 14kg he is totally huge we did not expect him to walk this soon..

My son was also born August 3 and has NO desire to walk. He has pulled up and walked along things for almost 3 months and will periodically let go to stand on his own but even trying to hold his hands and walk with him he tugs downward and cries. He wants to crawl! I'm not pushing him to do anything he doesn't want, he is already growing up so fast I don't want to rush him into anything. I think patients is the key!!

hi there,
My daughter is just over 9 1/2 months and was standing on her own in late April...that was mostly holding onto couches, chairs or people! She started taking her steps just last week and as of June 21 she was walking at least 12-18 steps ion her own! We let her figure it out on her own....taking her walker away a few steps so she had to walk to get it and of course, walking in between mom and dad. She is still wobbly, but I think she understands balance as she stops herself from falling now!
Good luck with your son, have fun with him in the grass!

My baby takes six steps and figures it's faster to drop to her knees and crawl towards the fridge door before I close it. She was like your son, and would not move an inch but stand for at least five minutes before dropping down. We would encourage her by moving slowly and trying to show her that one leg goes in front of the other.

Time to brag! My son (born 2 August), was standing at 6 months and cruising the furniture, only two weeks after he first started crawling (5 months). Soon after, he stood independently (still at 6 months). The week before he turned 10 months he started to walk independently. After he took his first couple of steps on his own, it was only a few days before he was taking 12 or 15 steps. Now at 46 weeks old he is waling all over the place - he falls on his bottom a fair bit, but he probably walks more than crawls now.

My daughter stands alone for about 20 seconds, balance is her issue. If you get a hula hoop and both of you stand inside it he holds on to the front and you hold on to the side and you both take small, slow steps. It teaches the movement quite well. Although my daughter doesn't stand or walk, she can almost run with me and the hula hoop!!

My son turned 10 months on the 20th and he's been walking since he was only a week into his 9th month. I think he just wants to keep up with my other four. It's incredible! But he also started crawling right away when he was six months. I just kept having him stand and put him a few paces away from my husband or myself and asked him to come here. At first he fell down every tme, but soon he took a step before he'd fall and within a week or so he was doing it. Keep trying and your little guy will be there too.

My son was born the same day as yours and the day he turned 10 months he officially started walking. He took his first step on St. Patricks day after that we let him do it on his own for a while. Then we would put him down and try to make him walk back and forth to us eventually he just did it on his own. It took about a week or so for him to be comfy he still falls on his butt occassionally but for the most part he's just cruisin.

Each baby takes their time and own pace, our daughter is 10 1/2 months as well and is walking already she started taking assisted steps at 7 months and what we did from there to assist her is bought her the stand up and play toys and the walk along toys that they can push and walk and we just would walk around with her holding her hands and help her learn to hold her balance standing on her own and teach her that her walk along toys are for her to walk and push and eventually she got the hang of it with her own pace she started taking steps and partially walking a few steps at 9 months when she felt like it and 2 days after she turned 10 months she just literally got up off her daddy's lap and started walking lol they all take their time but those are some things we did to help her along with a little time in the walker here and there. My nephew wasn't walking fully at a year I believe he was about 13 months before he started so each baby takes their own time and pace
