Hi, just want to share a little of my story. At ages 1-3, my son was obsessed with doors to the point we could not go anywhere. We had a saying in our family. "My son never met a door he did not like". When we went, to parties, pumpkin patch, friends house, anywhere, he would find a door to open and close it. He would spend the entire time, one to two hours just opening and closing the door. I was so afraid something was wrong with him, so I had him evaluated. Nothing was wrong with him, he was curious about how the door worked and felt in control that he was able to make something work on his own. Now he is six years old and grew out of that behavior a long time ago and he is doing well. Although this behavior make look strange, it doesn't mean something is wrong, it's just different.

Oh yes.My son is almost 3 years old. He's obsessed with doors too. All kinds of doors like yours.Everytime I go shopping he has to open and close the doors a dozen times.I'm glad that I hear other moms have the same type of troubles with their toddlers.!!!

my son has been obsessed with doors (all kinds) when he was 1 year old until 23 months... Now that he's two, i noticed he's not so interested anymore with it. Before, we were kinda worried that he's too fixated in opening and closing doors but we just let him be and he got over it. Now he loves numbers and the alphabet and all kinds of shapes. LOL

I've had this for many months now & I dread my two year old daughter Francesca Elizabeth Jayne trapping her fingers one day! I've got a display cabinet & one is forever opening the doors on that & the drawers! lol I've had to block her wardrobe doors with something as I can just see her getting inside & having all her clothes on the bedroom floor!

My son LOVES, LOVES, LOOOOOVES, to open and close them.. On the same token I got to show him how to pass me the wet clothe from the washer so I can put it in the dryer... He thinks it is so much fun and of course, he get to close the washer's door once I get another load in... lol

My 2 year old is the same way but its bad that he has this obsession with doors cuz he would leave the apartment. he figured out how to unlock the door and if he would get up before us he would leave the apt or just doing simple chores and he would leave....

all 3 of my kids really liked doors but my 22 mth old son takes it to a whole new level he insists that any open door should be closed even if your standing in the door way, he will just push harder on the door trying to push you with the door to close it!! It cracks me up! He is also obsessed with shoes he just about always wants to have his shoes on and gets extremely upset when he can't them on!

My daughter is also! She is able to open the front door and the deadbolt on it so I have her in had to run out in the yard in all states of undress to pull her back inside. She also likes the doors on the cabinets and all of the cupboards. It is kind of frustrating.

My 26 month old is and has been doing the same for months, any door that is open he's obsessed and has to close it, or he likes to swing it, sometimes we have to lock the living room door to get any peace! whatever room we happen to be in the house, our son has to open and close the doors, wardrobes etc. His paediatrician says he's fine and its just a phase!

my son is 19 months and he is too. he love to "hide" and play peek a boo. he'll close the door and say "bye". He recently became tall enough to reach the door knobs, so now the whole new world is open to him. Its a novelty right now, but i'm sure he'll get bored of it soon enough and move on to the next new thing. it's pretty cute, until he gets stuck behind a door and can't get out

My son who is 3 1/2 is and has always been obsessed with doors. He loves to LOCK THEM ALWAYS!! Every time we go somewhere he has to go to the doors or find the emergency door and talk about it. I think if that is the only quirky thing he does that is fine. My son was diagnoised as being on the autistic spectrum. Not to say your child is, I am just saying be sure that he doesn't have alot of other strange habits or developmental delays.

Yes, my son is almost 23 months, he will be 2 on December 11. He is obsessed with doors, he is always closing them if they are open and pushing the ones open that are closed. It does not matter if I just opened it, he will shut it with me in it, lol. He is so funny.

Its a phase. All three of my kids have been thru it at around that age. Its just them mastering a new skill. They do that everytime they start to master something new. As scary as it is as a parent, it's all a part of their development and them learning new skills and developing a sense of pride in themselves for being able to accomplish a new skill.

Yeah my 2 year old has been obsessed with doors ever since she could walk. Doesn't matter if its cabinet door, dishwasher door, or any other door she has to close them.

Hi Renisha,

My little boy loves to play with doors! He gets such a kick opening and closing them. Especially, his bedroom door.

I will say though, my son was just diagnosed autistic. And doors, in particular, have been a point of discussion for us.

For instance, my speech therapist told me kids with autism have a 'thing' for doors.

Today, on the flip side though, my early interventionist said it was "just a kid being a kid."

Good luck!

my 2 year old has been the queen of the doors for about 6 months now. she will open doors for you and close them for you. she also lets herself in and out. It’s the obsession of closed drawers and cabinet doors that concerns me. we even opened them up here and there out of the blue adn she had to close them. LOL

My daughter is 25 months and if she doesn't get to "close" the door or "open" the door we have a crying 2 yr old on our hands. I think it is perfectly normal. She loves to run to her room, open the door by herself(hers is the only one without child safety door knobs) and then close it and laugh. At daycare if she doesn't get to open the door and close the door to her classroom she gets upset. Don't worry, it isn't weird:)

Totally normal! My youngest child is turning 2 in November and I watch a little boy 3 mos younger than her. They are both obsessed with closing the doors upstairs. Haven't mastered opening them yet though! I think they are just testing the environment and learning they can do new things.
