Believe it or not exercise has a small impact on weight loss it can speed up the process but you really need to change your diet. It is a balancing act between nutrition and fitness. I recommend you go to myfitnesspal.com and start tracking your calorie intake. Get a half hour of cardio in everyday and do moderate strength training two three times a week. I'm a personal training and nutritionist. I'm working on my masters in nutrition science as well. Anyways I wish you the best of luck

Losing weight successfully is 90% food and 10% excercise. You can sweat it out till the cows come home but if you are consuming more calories than you are burning off you will NOT lose weight - try and focus on your diet, if you get this part right the excercise you do will enable you to lose weight (as long as you are active on the treadmill/ walking outside for atleast 40 - 60 mins day with resistance training 2 - 3 times week thats all you really need to do - also take into account incidental excercise eg housework/playing with kids etc ) . Portion control is a huge factor - you can eat a balanced diet with everything in moderation if you stick to the appropriate portions. Do not eat off a large plate - find a medium to small size plate and when you dish out your dinner 1/2 the plate must be salad or veggies - 1/4 plate protein eg meat/fish etc/ 1/4 plate carbs eg potatoes, pasta etc. Do not consume any sugary drinks - this is wasted calories with no nutrional value - you will need to excercise hours a day just to burn this off alone. Have 3 main meals a day and 2 - 3 snacks in between eg an apple, a yogurt etc. Do not consume any cakes, biscuits, chips etc save this for special occasions only or treat yourself once a week. If you are consuming less calories than you are burning off and you still do not lose weight there could be an underlying medical reason eg thyroid so seek medical advice if you are concerned. The biggest piece of advice I could give is if you do have bad day/week/month DO NOT GIVE UP! Keep trying if you are doing everything right (with no medical probs) the weight will come off.

Resistance training will help you get there that much faster! I like to alternate days of cardio (running/ walking on an incline on the treadmill is perfect) and weight training. The cool thing about resistance training is that you can use anything from weights to your own body to burn calories and tone muscle. I tried P90x. I didn't love it, but I can see how it works. I really love Jillian Michaels' videos. Also, as long as you don't have any joint problems, start incorporating plyometric, or jump, training. It really boosts your fitness and metabolism. Be consistent, even if one day you miss a workout, get back to it the next day. Good luck! You're gonna feel great!

I was originally 130lbs before baby..I gained 82lbs which at the end brought me to 212lbs..I lost the first 42lbs just from breastfeeding, eating smaller portions (but 6 meals a day). I have been stuck at 170 and have been at a stand still for almost 3 months! I joined a gym and it hasn't come off yet..not even 1lbs! Just stuck with it..people keep saying "it took 9 months to gain and will probably take 9 months to take it off" Ya ya..just keep at it..as long as you get to the way you want to look to be happy, who cares about the number! Good luck!

I have a treadmill at home I run on,I love it but I packed on like 8 pounds since I started running. This happened before when I lost 135 pounds.I gained before I started losing, however I really enjoy it.I work out like an hour a day and it feels great. It took me 2 yrs to lose my weight before and I am sure it will take time again.Just give it time and like someone else said make smaller goals. My goal is to get back down to 130,but I have alot of smaller mini goals that I plan on hitting first. My first goal is to get back in shape/get healthy.Weight loss will follow!

I am 187 and I would like to lose 62 lbs. My baby or I guess he is a toddler now is almost 18 months old. I have been working out and eating really healthy for the last 2 weeks and I stepped on the scale today and I've lost only ONE LB! Which really irritates me because if you compare how I was eating before to how I am eating now it's a world of difference.

I have been doing Turbo Jam videos and walking some on the treadmill. I think my metabolism is out of wack and it is just going to take a little more work to start losing! I keep telling myself that EVERY DAY IS A NEW DAY! So, if I eat bad one day or don't workout...start fresh the next day!! This has really helped me keep going and not fall back with my hold bad habits! Just keep plugging along you are doing great!

Hi Candice! I was able to lose all of my baby weight (36lbs) and then some by the time my son turned 4 months with the help of Weight Watchers. It's a system that has proven time and again to work for me (I was able to lose 10 lbs before my wedding three years ago too). It's a great system because it doesn't restrict you from eating any foods and really makes you really look at the quantity of foods your eating. I've always had a healthy diet anyway (lots of salads, fresh fruit, whole grains, and very little junk), but before starting the program I never realized just how many calories I was consuming! Even if you're not into the meetings it's worth it to go and get the materials and weight in once a week... that's what I did. I was able to follow the system at home and the weight-ins were a real motivator! In the beginning it's challenging to count up how many points your using, but once you make it your lifestyle it comes natually, and you can really keep the weight off too! And the program is not that expensive- only about $9 per week and it's definitely worth it to see such great results! Good luck!

Weightlifting has always helped me drop the baby weight. It tones, defines and helps those numbers drop :)

Check out itrain.com. you can download treadmill workouts to your ipod or mp3 player(small fee--but its not bad) and its like having a personal trainer right there next to you! They also have weight lifting routines. I use it to help keep me motivated on the treadmill cause I get so bored after a while. Hope this helps! I still have 10-15 pounds to go. Those brownies last night sure didn't help me!!

I am also struggling to loose my weight. BUT I have found Stop Eat Stop by Brad Pillon is excellent. I would not recommend it except if you are overweight (my BMI says I am listed as OBESE!!) and if you try this you will find that you loose weight without too much exercise. If you put in a bit of exercise too (I use the WII and a yoga dvd) that it will come off quicker. I lost 3kg last week (not sure what that is in pounds) and all I did was the stop eat stop and walked pretty much every day. I didn't even do any of my exercise videos.

Try not to be depressed as I find that makes me eat more. Remember it took 9 months to put on the weight and it should take 9 months to take it off.. 3 more months to go and make that your goal.. Also I find rewarding yourself after loosing some weight is good.. ie get yourself a magazine, a haircut or a facial.

I used this program called Body by Glamour, from Glamour magazine, i loved it, it's free. Also a great way to lose weight on a treadmill is to break up your session (let's say 20 min session) into short intensive parts: start by walking the fastest you can for 2 min, then right away switch to running fastest u can for 3 min, then right away go back to fast walk for 2 min, then fast run for 3 min, and do this for 15-25 min total. hope it helps

I'm still working hard to lose the weight. At this point after my first pregnancy, I had lost it all. This is my second one, and it isn't coming off as easily. I hear you about not wanting to join a gym -- expensive, and can't get there. I work out after my kids have gone to bed. We bought an elliptical trainer (great workout), and we also have a wii. I really like "My Fitness Coach", "Golds Gym Cardio Workout", and "The Biggest Loser". Along with that I try to walk everywhere, and dance with my 3 year old a lot. I think a big thing is just to be active in as many different ways as you can. I am having trouble on cutting down my portion sizes and some of the snacking (I have a sweet tooth), but one thing at a time, right?

I highly recommend "Jillian Michael's 30 Day Shred". It is challenging but provides a great workout in only a little over 20 minutes. There are three levels and each level is considerably harder. Check it out, you can get it for cheap on Amazon.

I' m glad to hear that other mum's are having this same problem, well not glad for you guys, but just glad i'm not alone.
I was up to 196lbs by the end of my pregnancy and although I went down to 180lbs for a bit, I'm going up and down now, and can't seem to get past 180. For awhile I comforted myself with time, but that trick isn't working anymore.
I try to use the "gym" in my apartment building, but it's hard to get motivated, my boyfriend can't help much with the baby, he has a herniated disc, is waiting for surgery and works nights. So it's difficult to find the time to exercise.
Most days it's too cold where I live to take the baby out for much longer than 10mins or so........
blah. I'm ranting.

just glad to know I'm not the only one unhappy with her mummy-tummy.

I having been having a hard time losing the weight too, I go to curves but was still not losing the weight so finally I took a weight loss class at curves and am now on a low carb diet which is really working, you also eat 6 times a day. Curves is only 29 dollars a month and the class was only 59 dollars so not bad in price. If you cant do that just cut out the carbs and see what happens I lost 5 pounds in the first week.

Cut out all forms of beverages other than water. I lost 5 pounds in a week just from that. You would be amazed how many calories you drink!!!

I use the treadmill and a stability ball. I have about 15 pounds I want to lose and it's not much fun. I lost 50 pounds after my first pregnancy by eating right and exercising so I know it can be done. I lost most of the pregnancy weight this time in the first few weeks, but am trying to work the rest off, plus what I gained before I got pregnant.
Just be patient. Once you start losing weight you will be more motivated to do more. Weights are great to use, it's just a matter of finding the time and money. I can't afford a gym membership so it's treadmill for walking, then running when I get some fitness back. I used to put my baby in a back carrier and go for 3 mile walks every morning. EVery little bit helps and try to stay positive.

Along with working out everyday at the gym, my bf got me into lifting weights. I'm starting to look more defined and I'm losing inches fairly fast. Don't worry to much. I was pretty underweight to begin with and am still not down to the old weight/old pants. Six months is still not nine months....I estimate, even with all my efforts, I won't be back in my old clothes will the 9 months is done. Everyone is different, I work my butt off because my job requires I look slim, still I have to be patient and realise I still just had a baby. As long as you do all you can do, being patient is a big part of it. Keep it up and you'll get there. As well, try not weighing yourself and get out a measuring tape...it's helped me to be less fixated on the up and down water weight/hormone stuff and focused on the actual inches I'm losing. Good luck.

I do P90X... it's hard and I wanted to give up at the beginning because I couldn't do what the video people were doing. Well obviously I couldn't - I realized I shouldn't be able to do what they do. I went at my own pace; eat 5 small meals a day (with a protein bar as a snack). My son just turned 6 months Monday and I'm below what I weighed when I got pregnant.
I found that even though I was really tired - I work outside the home as well - I had to be dedicated to do the videos after my son went to bed. My husband did them with me so that helped motivate as well!
Good luck!!!!

Join a fitness club like 24 hour. One that has a swimming pool and group classes. Also make your goals smaller. Work in 5lbs increments. Pick up some yoga DVDs and/or find a Mommy and Me yoga class. At 6 months you can also join a Mommy and Me swimming class.
