I'm starting to give my 4mo old baby food. He likes mixed berry rice cereal, but not plain rice cereal. He has had jarred bananas and jarred applesauce. My mom said I need to give him veggies so it's not all sweet stuff. However, the jars all say "sweet peas, sweet carrots, etc". What am I supposed to give him?

Breastmilk is naturally sweet - so babies are used to a sweet taste anyway - sweet potato, peas etc are still good foods if there is no added sugar, salt, preservatives and colours. Making your own is a great idea if you have the time - you could use more green veges like broccoli etc

the pureed veggies all have a naturally sweet taste to them. the plain rice cereal has a significantly blander taste to them. thats our problem with our 14 week (3 1/2 months) daughter. she loves veggies but the cereal is def not her favorite. just ask your doctor but just remember things in nature all have natural sugar so its just thier name

If they do not have added sugars that is fine. Sweet peas are just a type of peas.

Personally, I am just making stuff from scratch. It's a lot easier and cheaper. Just buy a bag of organic carrots - steam, blend, pour into containers and you're done. You get a little more than 12 servings from a small bag.

Just pour the serving into ice cube trays to freeze...
