My 7 month old has been having pureed foods since she was 4 months old and her appetite was extremely good. Now for some reason or another she has decided that she would only eat a few mouthfuls and would start gagging if they were a little less pureed. Has anyone experienced this before? I have 4 older children and can't recall this with any of them.

You might want to talk to your doctor about possible reflux. My daughter had it and it started out with gagging at about 8 months (she started solids at 5 mo) and then she started vomiting after each meal. It's not too serious but requires medication if that is what it is.

my 7 month old didnt like smashed food either... what i did was i started to buy carrots sweet potatoes and all kind of veggies.... (of course one at a time had to wait 2 days for each one) and cut them in small sqares and il just boil them (they get very sorft) and feed them to my baby and she love it... and she doesnt have any teeth yet........

Thanks Lisa.... I did think of that. She has got her two bottom teeth about 2 weeks ago and I really noticed it then. Maybe her teeth could be a factor. I'll definately keep this in mind and see how I go.

Is she teething? My daughter started gagging on her food when she was teething. I normally gave her warm food, but when she did that, I just gave it to her right out of the refrigerator, and she did fine with it. Once she moved to more lumpy food, she had no problem....

Thanks Esta.... I just don't like seeing her gag!! I am continuing with giving her lumpier foods, but she is only taking about 4 mouthfuls and then refuses the rest. I will keep persisting.

Yes I have experienced this with my 7 month old, I have started trying to give him a little lumpier food and he also gaggs but I have just been continuing to give it to him and each night he is getting better, I make shepards pie and just cut the carrots up really small and add peas and corn mixed with mashed potato, it goes down a treat.

So my advice would be, just stick to it and I'm sure she will get the hang of it!!
